Dedicated Server startup erro "Error: No IP assigned"

Won't Fix

Found two duplicate tickets:

We really need this to be fixed since each time I reboot the server it takes a lot of retries to get rid of this error.

According to the code, when startup a dedicated server, the game tries to get the server's public IP from a Steam API. And throw "Error: No IP assigned" if it fails to get one.

But the problem is that the Steam API which gets public IP often stops working, especially during steam peak time, which makes a server's startup need lots of retries (until the SteamAPI is successful).

To reproduce the bug: simply try to start the dedicated server without an internet connection, in this case, the Steam API is 100% guaranteed to fail, so you should be able to see the error message.

As you can notice, both mentioned threads are quite old (though only one has been tagged won't fix because we haven't received the requested information from the player). Since you are experiencing a similar issue, could you help us with some additional information?

As you mentioned experiencing the issue when rebooting the server, does the issue only happen when rebooting the server or when launching a new server as well?

Can you send us the log files when experiencing this issue?

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineersDedicated.
