True docking

A functionality i have wanted since i started playing was true ship docking. I have seen in almost every space based tv show or movie a way to move people between ships and stations without a suit.

I see two potential options for this. One would be a door with properties similar to connectors where when attached they may be opened without causing their respective grid to depressurize. A second option would be a block like the gravity generator that could extend the air zone enough for a player to step through. I feel like this kind of docking would play very well in both scenarios/role playing but also hardcore play throughs.

You can just use merge blocks.

Yes that is possible but I feel like its very limiting in an unsatisfying way. You are limited on the shape, size, block options etc. If there were a mechanic that would integrate the docking into core gameplay the builder would have more freedom to build their design around the block and create another layer of gameplay to make survival feel more detailed.

You can't merge small grid to large grid. Moreover, docking a large grid ship to a station wit a merge block causes it to become part of the station, and to remain static after it has been un-merged. Of course, it also loses its grid name, which affects the remote control menu.

Merge blocks can be used for docking, but they aren't a tool designed for the job.
