Subgrid disappeared while working

Solved

To make drilling easier, I designed an automated tunneling shield that moves between advanced rotor parts built on a reinforced pipe, with the rotor housings (stators) being part of the shield. It worked as expected during testing, so when I built it in the main world, I set up five drilling iterations and flew 6+ km away from base to dig up some ore. About an hour later, I returned to find the entire mechanism had vanished without a trace. Exploring the tunnel, I discovered that the shield had disappeared right at the end of the second iteration: for some reason, it had failed to weld its rail during the iteration, and because of this, it was unable to attach the leading rotor, and then disappeared.

Checked backups. Looks like the submodule with the projector and two merge blocks disappeared first, so the rail wasn't welded.

P.S. Also found another bug...

It seems the game simply destroys all grids with switched off blocks that are too far away, thinking they don't belong to the player. I discovered the reason by accident: I left the base, and the switched off machine disappeared.

Hello Yarb,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum, and we sincerely apologize for the delayed response.

Based on your description, the issue might be related to aggressive Trash Removal settings in the current world, lobby, or server.

If you are playing in a single-player world or are the host/admin of a lobby or dedicated server, please try the following steps:

While in the world, press Alt+F10 to open the Admin Tools screen → from the dropdown menu, select Trash Removal → click the Suspend button → close the screen. Then try reproducing the issue by flying away from your grid and check whether it still disappears.

If the issue no longer occurs, it is likely caused by the current Trash Removal settings. You may need to review and adjust Trash Removal settings to better suit your gameplay for your world/lobby/server.

However, if the issue persists and the world or server is using MODs, we recommend testing this again in an unmodded (no MODs active) world/server. Certain MODs can also trigger or influence trash cleanup behavior.

Please let us know if any of these steps help resolve the issue or if it continues.

Kind Regards,
