Ship is slowly falling towards the planet

Need More Information

Hello guys.

I have an issue with a ship (or ships actually) falling slowly down towards the planet.

It is a container carrier. I built a container (made of two large cargoes) wich is connected to the bottom of a small atmo hauler. The hauler is capable of carrying the fully loaded cargo out of space, but when entering atmopshere it first starts turning slowly forward and backward. When coming close to ground it doesn't stop. So I need to balance the ship with thrust by "pulsing" with micro starts while landing. This makes handling it really annoying. I removed all pistons and stuff keeping the container safe below the ship. Now the container is connected only with 4 magnetic plates to keep it safe, even if I accidently disconnect the connector while entering atmosphere. Both are large grid. No rotors, pistons, hinges in the system. Any ideas? I saw this is really an old bug and wanted to ask if you got any solution or planned fix for that. Greetings! Rob

Wanted to add the comment, that this seems to be the same issue like here: https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/ships-with-subgrids-and-only-hydro-thrusters-drift-in-natural-gravity

My ship has only Hydro Thrust and as I mentioned 2 connected grids. One is the ship, one is the container. The container doesn't have it's own thrust nor gyros.

Hello Engineer,

Thank you for reaching out to our forum.

This does indeed sound like an issue we might already be aware of.

To better investigate your case, could you please share the affected blueprint and/or the world where the problem occurs (with the blueprint already present)?

For save(s):

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

For blueprints:

You can access your blueprints files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints. Select the correct folder where your blueprint is saved (local or cloud), zip the file and attach it here.

Additionally, please describe the steps to reproduce the issue, or provide a video demonstrating your actions so we can replicate them on our end.

This would greatly help us determine whether this is a new problem or a variation of a known one.

Thank you in advance!

Kind regards,

Keen Software House: QA Department

Hello, I can probably create a video by reloading the blueprint and repasting an old version of the ship I'm mentionig. As I'm hosting the server on GTX I need to look for the save folder. I can upload the blueprint to steam workshop as I'm using cloud sync for Blueprint. So,..No. 1 I try to reproduce the issue and somehow create a video of it. No 2. I try to find the save. No 3. I upload a blueprint to steam ;-) But,..all this might take a moment

Greeetings!

Ok..

1. Here is the Video. Unfortunately the ship stopped close to ground now as intended but you see the drifting behaviour. The drifting stops at a certain angle as you can see from around 10000 m above ground. Stopped correcting it there for a while.

2. This is the blueprint of the ship itself uploaded to Steam: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3492829840

3. This is the backup of the whole world for testing: Backup-[2025.06.03]-[17.22].7z

I hope this helps for testing.

When removing all the pistons and adding a merge block to the ship aswell as to the container to merge the container into the ship everything is completely stable. In my last tries when getting close to ground the ship stopped first when dampeners got enabled and after some seconds it started drifting towards ground.
