Hello Chris,

thank you for reaching our forum with this problem.

Can you please provide more information on the subject?

Is the exception/crash happening only when/after saving? The rest of the game - loading, starting new game, general playing - is working for you?

Does this issue occur after performing the manual save or also after auto-save?

Can you please share me full log from the affected game session?

Also, you can try our general workarounds first. These are:

  • Verify your game files in Steam - right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) - you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder - same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Please let me know if anything from the provided list worked for you.

If not, please share the full log as requested above.

Also please provide further details if possible. E.g. whether you are experiencing this problem only in this one specific world (from the log snippet) or in any world in general, or anything else that might seems relevant, like whether something changed (HW, SW) on your side from the last time it was working, to this current state.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

In my particular case here is what I found. None of the suggestions had any bearings on the actual problem. What happened was the server crashed during a save and there was a temporary file "locked" in windows in a ".save" folder. I seem to remember this happening once before during a save and went through some procedure in powershell to unlock the file but this time I couldn't be bothered with it and just decided to do a fresh install of windows as I had done some work inside the PC case to refresh thermal paste and whatnot. Long story short, I decided to start fresh and copy over the existing directory onto the newly formatted HD with a fresh install of windows and it worked as expected without errors.

In the end it was a problem created by the dedicated server crashing during a save. I seem to be having some instability resulting in crashes to desktop without anything being written into the log files. Not sure what that is about and don't know where to begin diagnostics on that. Any help would be appreciated.
