Odd vertical rubber banding to the ground in dedicated server

Daze Dream shared this bug 2 years ago
Won't Fix

We're all suffering from an odd rubber banding while using jetpack that pulls us to the ground, sometimes keeping us there half of the time and rubber banding us back to where we should be the other half. This affects some vehicles too but it seems on and off with which vehicles for certain people. Most of the vehicles I fly have no lag at all, the server is not laggy. But one particular vehicle rubber banded as if I was falling upwards, and despite not visually rubbing against the ceiling, there were the visual and physical effects as if I were scraping the top of the ceiling.

Most notably, me and 1 of the friends found that distance away from damaged voxels will stop the rubber banding. Every time I flew over a crater I would be pulled in. Flying 100m above the ground stopped the rubber banding, flying away to smooth undamaged ground would stop the rubber banding. Walking and jumping around is smooth and nornal. It seems only jetpacking and certain player and certain ship combinations experience this.

We tried removing all mods with no change in behaviour, server was rebooted and it's PC rebooted before we experienced this. me and 1 friend both found that the rubber banding happens most around craters directly beneath within about 30 meters.

I have a attached the world file, but if you dont get the issue there you can join our server to see it. It's pretty bad in our server, we're all experiencing it.

Hello, Daze Dream,

thanks for letting us know about this issue that you are experiencing.

But please believe me that I did never ever experienced it while playing - not before just by accident, nor now when tried after reading your text and try to follow the "steps".

Can you please by more specific what exactly and when is happening? On what game mode exactly? On which planet (Earth, Alien planet, Mars, Titan... ?) On the DS it´s happening to all the players or just to you and your friend?

If you can share me the save file, that would be the best! Might be something connected to some settings in your world or something.

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineersDedicated\Saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Also please try to record a video so you can add it here as well. As I never did experience it, the video might help me a great deal in seeing what the broken behavior is and what I shall be looking for.

Kind Regards

We did find out what was causing the issue. After turning the whole base off the rubber banding was completely gone. When turned back on the rubber banding was back. After turning things off and on we found that it's all subgrid blocks like rotors hinges and pistons that when turned on caused this effect . When my friend is next online which might be a few days Il try and reproduce the issue and send the file.

I wonder if this bug has similar roots to a weird clang device my friend made on a creative world where a car was connected in weird ways to a static grid rotor and connector, and when it spins players nearby would shake, spin, jump and roll with it. Il try and get a file for that too which might help.

Hello, Daze Dream,

it´s been quite long time from last comment. Any update on this issue? Can you share the save file now? Or is the workaround you found enough? Or does the issue not happen to you anymore?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Kind Regards

Hello, Engineer!

Because there is no new comment from you, and we are unable to reproduce the issue on our own, I will close this thread now as outdated.

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.

Kind Regards
