hinges exploding on servers when attaching grids together.

tommelom10 shared this bug 3 years ago
Reported

i built a portable mining rig with 8 legs using hinges. in order to skip the hassle of putting in all the limits manually i made an assembly kit by adding the leg parts to the main grid. this way i can assemble the legs with the limits pre installed.

but when i lign up a leg part and pres the attach button it detonates destroying everything in a 3 block radius.

why does clang hate me? ;_;

i can get around it by building them normally and setting the limits.

tho i do feel bad for people using MArmOS and other scripts like it in survival. and using this trick

the screenshots are before and after trying to attach the hinges together.

Might be related to what I tried reporting a month ago, I'll leave this here in case

Hello, tommelom10,

thanks for sharing your issue with us. However I was not able to reproduce it.

Can I get the blueprint of your affected ship, please?

Although, being you, I would wait for the issue Alexander shared to be fixed, really. Seems it might be similar-ish.

Or the best way possible is so you share whole save file with us.

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Kind Regards

here is a blueprint of the ship and its parts. all you need to do is align the hinges. then go into the control terminal, there should be a group called landing legs.

after aligning the hinges press attach on that group. it works as intended some times so you may have to attach more than 3 parts(just to be sure)

the bug happened on my friends server, so i don't have access to the save file.

it works fine 100% when in singleplayer.

Hello, tommelom10,

it the fist place, let me say "Wow!" That assembly parts and the way how you described them... that is quite something! And that is the reason, why I don´t want to just leave it as I can´t reproduce it/connect it all together/attach the heads properly from the existing and prepared parts. But the fact is... I can´t.

Can you please share a video how it is done? Only way I found functional was to "Add heads" on everything (which messed up the group) and then try to reproduce the built legs as close as possible by freshly building them. That worked, but the issue did not happen to me. So short "how to" video would be great help!

Sorry for any inconvenience this might bring to you. But I really want to be able to reproduce it so I can put it into our system so it will get fixed for you.

Kind Regards

i did a little more thorough testing.(on and off server) first video is single player. second video is on my friends server.(no angle limit) third is also on the server but with angle limits.

seems the hinges aren't doing like the rotors do when something attaches outside the limit, instead its trying to force the part into the limit

Hello,

no videos are attached. Is is possible you upload the videos on google drive and share the link to the videos here? Or on YT?

Thanks.

Hi, tommelom10!

Thanks for the videos :) That was great help to figure out how to assembly and connect legs to the rest of the ship :)

Issue was successfully reproduced and put into our internal system.

Kind Regards

Gonna add to this report as it is very similar to my problem.

My "exploding" hinge occur in a local game with small-grid. I have used several days of testing to see if I could isolate the problem. It seams to show up mainly when u attach (or detach) a hinge-top which is orientated 180 deg of how it would spawn along with a base. Though it doesn't always happen. And sometimes it happens when a hinge is attached the right way, if there is other hinges in the construction.

I have attached a simple contraption which will explode when it is pasted into a world. It represent two doors. Both able to open either up or down. In this save only one hinge on each door are attach. So they should be able to rotate freely as they like. But instead it "explodes". The original in my world, "explodes" if I attach the hinges. But after making a copy and pasting it in with the occurring "explosion", it seams to not "explode" when attaching the hinges. So this is all so much randomness.

My conclusion is: It might has to do with hinge-tops that are rotated 180 deg.

Followup: Did a final test on my original problem-project Where I placed hinges and made sure that all hinge-tops was orientated the "correct" way. And all "exploding" seams to have stopped.

Just had a similar Klang event of severe magnitude on my Kuun-Lan mining ship. I had opted for 4 pistons retracting the rotating mining head behind some hinged mining bay doors (double hinges each, anti detachment assurance). Won't complain about hinges detaching, or working differently from the ones opposite them, or rotating the ship while opening (I can live with that) but out of the blue, after a moment of unresponsiveness, internals blew up on a 10 tile radius, selectively destroying every equipment near the hinges and EVERY battery on the ship, plus propelling the ship to 100m/s (my ship needs 6 H2 thrusters some 10 seconds to get to that speed so not an easy feat). JumpDrives, reactors, the works, Is good I had some solar panels or it would have been a total loss Yeah, I am super happy with the game!!
