False "No Fuel" warning and "0 sec" (with example)

Martin G. shared this bug 5 years ago
Solved

I'm getting a "No Fuel" warning while sitting in the control station and doing nothing. Remaining time is also shown as "0 sec". If I turn off the solar panels the warning stops.

Looking at the source code on github it seems that MyResourceDistributorComponent.ComputeRemainingFuelTime would be the culprit, somehow returning 0.0f

Example world attached. Sit in the control station and do nothing to trigger the warning. Move the ship a bit to temporarily turn the warning off (remaining time is different from "0 sec"). Turn off the solar panels to make the warning go away.

(I saw the other, similar bug report but that one doesn't have an attached example.)

I have minimized the example to just four blocks:

* Battery

* Control Stations

* Small Reactor(turned off)

* Solar Panel

This bug is so annoying that I created account here just for that one bug. Please, do anything to help us with this constant SPAM. If you don't have time or manpower to completely fix this issue, there should be easy to implement workaround to just disable this alert completely.

Just to be clear, Martin G. description and recreation method (4 blocks) is still up to date.

Thank you

Evidently, with how much patience we had to spend waiting for a fix on this, it is not actually appreciated all that much. The bug is not obscure nor difficult to replicate, concerns a very common case, and yet, it is merely "considered".

Honestly I started playing like 8 days ago and this is far and away the most irritating thing I've encountered in the game thus far. Honestly, just turn it off or let us turn it off, please!

This is still happening... more than a year after being reported...

I'm surprised nobody has made a mod that replaces that sound with silence.

The whole Fuel system needs to be overhauled- constantly bouncing between 4 years and 30 seconds is ridiculous. Perhaps changing remaining time system to a Percentage-based system would make more sense- however much fuel you have is considered as 100%, as you burn though it the remaining amount is expressed as a percentage and goes down faster as you use more thruster power and such. Would work for Uranium and Hydrogen, would work for batteries with 100 to 0% charge remaining. Would work for Solar panels too, you'd just need to have enough panels to power your grid and that would be considered as 100%; if you don't have enough panels, then you'd be overloading ( same with Batteries ).

Boom, fixed your game for you.

You should make your suggestion a new feature topic instead of tacking it onto a bug report.

I have this same thing happening on the 'Easy Start' Earth station - which is exceptionally confusing to beginners. I have voted for a fix to this, as if there's one thing you really don't need, as a complete N00b in the game, is to spend an hour trying to figure out what needs fixing on the base (vis a vis 'learning to play') - only to discover that it's a known bug when consulting the Internet for some help; ostensibly 'in game.' Now I know what's going on, I'll simply remove the reactors, or whatever else I need to do to resolve the issue - but for the sake of future N00bs, please consider moving this fix up the priority list. Thanks :-D

Other than this, so far, I'm loving this game - great work!

Soon as I added the reactor the "no fuel" spam started. Turning off the reactor did nothing. I had to disassemble it. Very annoying. Please fix.

ARRGHH! Bloody thing is giving me the "no fuel" spam even with the reactor partly dismantled!! I had to remove every last bit of it to get it quit. I was able to reproduce the error even with all mods removed. Just add a reactor (just the frame - don't have to build it) and the spam starts. Removing it stops the spam.

As you might see, the post is from year ago. SE was released in 2013...

I doubt they will fix this minor inconvenience.

They'll include it as DLC.
