[Major Bug] Power Bug

Hi there,

I have been having fun with the game since the full launch yesterday. Me and my friends were playing the Alien Planet custom game scenario and we spawned in the Medical Facility.

There is a major bug involving the connectors on pre-made landing pads and where they connect with the pre-built ships.

At some point after using a ship and moving it away from the connector and re-aligning it, it causes some kind of a power surge and stops all batteries and power generating objects from working.

Example: I went mining using the driller ship, collected some stone and came back to base. Upon landing and aligning the connector every powered item in the entire base turned off, including doors not opening, all displays turned off and all batteries not charging/discharging.

We managed to get the pre-built batteries working again by turning them off and back on in the control panel, but every single solar panel that was pre-built stopped working completely and we could not find any way to get them to work again short of destroying every single one of them and re-building them all one-by-one, which we were not willing to do.

I'm sorry for being somewhat vague, it's hard to pinpoint exactly what is causing this bug but it is definitely related to the connector interaction between the pre-built ships and their pads on the AlienEasyStation Founders base thingy.

Please can you look in to this?

Cheers

UPDATE: The bug can be replicated on any of the scenarios that have a pre-fabricated base where you can spawn in the Medical bay.

The bug seems to be specifically triggered by the Mining craft since the connectors on the other two are disabled by default. My current workaround is just to turn off the connector on the mining craft even though this obviously is an issue if you want to use the damn thing.

UPDATE: After more testing, you can successfully lock the landing gear and connect the ship without issue, but if you POWER DOWN the ship while the connector is enabled it will brick the power system for the entire station.

Hello, Engineer!

We were not able to reproduce your issue. Could you please provide us with more information regarding the issue you reported including a save and/or video?

To report a bug into our system it is necessary to have reliable steps to reproduce in order for programmers to fix it.

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Kind Regards

Hi there,

I hastily made this video which I hope you find useful. Cheers.

Sorry for the choppy video. I'm not sure what happened, I'm not used to using OBS.

This issue is also in a player made base. Connecting a ship to a base connector and powering down the ship will shutdown the entire base.

Did not test this but i suspect if you have a cockpit/controlseat on the base cycleing Y should re-enable the base.

Expected function for pressing Y while in a ship is that it would only power down the ship and not anything its connected to.

A related note: Powering down a ship will cause the connector to detach, so if your docking is on the side or top of a ship it will fall to the ground at the lost of power.

I tested your theory about the station/base cockpit seat. It does restore the batteries/power which is nice but it still renders all power generating blocks (solar panels/wind turbines) completely useless unless you destroy them and rebuild or make new ones from scratch.

Hello, Engineers!

We are sorry, but after examination of this issue, we have to inform you, that this feature works as intended. When you lock your ship via connectors to the grid that you have access to, powering down your ship also causes powering down the grid.

Kind regards

EDIT: I tested this myself and realized I'm wrong. Pressing Y with the miner connected causes the power blocks in the miner to be set to the off state, but the blocks on the base are not set to the off state. They simply stop working. This is definitely not the intention of this feature Flappy, hopefully we can give Keen enough info to reproduce this bug and fix it.

Original comment: All Y does it "turn off" all power generating blocks on the grid and any connected grid. Batteries, Solar Panels, and Reactors will go into the "off" state in the terminal. I'm sure if you check the terminal(press K on any yellow highlighted cargo port or blue button panel) and select all your power generating blocks, you'll be able to turn them back on. Despite their passive nature, solar panels can indeed be toggled off as well.

Replying to your top comment Keen to better get your attention: This is definitely a bug.

The intended feature is that the power state of blocks in the terminal of the connected grid will also turn off. The reality is they simply stop working, despite their power state still being on.

To reproduce in 1.189.041:

1. Load up Alien Start world.

2. Jump in the Miner.

3. Press P to lock the connector.

4. Press Y to power down the grid.

5. Check the state of the power blocks(batteries) in the miner. They are off as intended.

6. Check the state of the power blocks (batteries, solar panels) in the base. They are on, yet no power is being delivered to the base.

Thanks for backing me up on this. Yeah, when a ship is connected powering down the entire station is a little dumb, but I get the logic behind it as the game sees ship and station as one entity when the connector is engaged.

The fact that it "kills" all solar panels and wind turbines is another matter. FYI, batteries can be "resurrected" by toggling the battery blocks off and back on again. They will provide power, but they will recieve zero charge from the solar panels.

Hello, Engineers!

The issue with Solar Panel and Wind Turbine that don't update after shutdown was reproduced and our programmers will look at it. Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

Well i guess the the solution is it unbind the Y key for fear of shutting down a base by mistake. And setting a group/hotbar to power down ships.

I will add this to keys to unbind along with the P key and block autorotate key.

Are you sure Flappy that you cant fix the solor/wind by cycling power with the Y key? If not it might be worth making a new bug report on that specifically.

Yeah, I'm sure buddy. Toggling the blocks on and off, grinding them down to hack level and repairing them, nothing works for any solar panels or wind turbines after shutting the base off. Maybe you could do some testing too and see if you can get anything to work?

The only thing that I have found to work is destroying the old panels/turbines and replacing them from new or building additional ones.

Me and my friends are playing together now on a dedicated server, and I'm experiencing a somewhat similiar bug?

Basically this is what happens, my ship has power, batteries fully charged, but thrusters do nothing, no power gets delivered to the thrusters.

It happens after I've disconnected from my station using a connector, I'll just drop straight to the ground and my ship will be broken, because the thrusters didn't do anything.

It's has happened a few times already and it's extremely annoying, the only thing that works is restarting the server.

The station is nothing special, it's got your refinery, assembler, storage, wind turbines etc.

Just a dead simple base, and I'm frankly a little bummed out that this bug keeps happening.

It doesn't always happen, I've no idea exactly what triggers it but it's happened a few times already so I'm sure it's a bug.
