Game Fails to Initialize after Economy II Update

Need More Information

Ever since the Economy II update, I can't load my modded game, or even start a new unmodded game. It gives the same error every time - "There was an error while loading the world! Check the log for more information."

I'm attaching the log files which should be associated with the modded game I tried to load, and the vanilla game I tried to start fresh with customized settings (but no mods), and finally an attempt at a quick start (which again gave the same error).

Thank you!

Damian

Hello Damian,

Thank you for writing to us on our PC Support forum.

Based on our review, the issue appears to be caused by one or more MODs used in the affected world. This can also be seen in the log through the MOD_CRITICAL_ERROR entries, which indicate a MOD-related loading failure.

You can verify this behavior with the following test:

  1. Launch the game fresh.
  2. Start a new/fresh unmodded (vanilla) world (the world should load correctly).
  3. Then try loading the affected modded world (the loading error should occur)
  4. After that, try loading another vanilla world again (this will likely fail as well until the game is restarted).

Since the affected world contains many MODs, we cannot determine with certainty which specific MOD is causing the issue. We therefore recommend reviewing the MODs used in the world by visiting their Workshop pages and checking whether:

  • they are compatible with the latest version of the game,
  • they are outdated, or
  • they are currently broken/unsupported.

Please try removing suspected MODs and then attempt to load the affected world again.

Please note that MODs are the responsibility of their creators to keep updated and compatible with the latest version of the game, and we do not provide support for the MODs themselves.

However, if the issue still occurs even after launching the game fresh and loading a new/fresh vanilla world directly, please send us a new log file for further investigation.

Kind Regards,

Please read my original post. The logs include an attempt to load a modded game, as well as two attempts to start new unmodded games.

Hello Damian,

Thank you for your reply.

Sorry if we failed to explain this clearly in our previous response. From the review of the initial log files, we already know that you first loaded the affected modded world and then attempted to load vanilla worlds (which failed to load). However, this all happened within the same gameplay session, which is why we mentioned that the issue appears to start only after the affected modded world is loaded.

That is why we asked you to perform the test in a fresh gameplay session:

  • Launch the game.
  • Load a vanilla world first and confirm that it loads successfully.
  • Then load the affected modded world and confirm that it fails to load.
  • After that, without restarting the game, try loading another vanilla world and check whether it also fails to load.

This test would help confirm whether the issue starts occurring only after attempting to load the affected modded world. Because, based on our review of the logs, what seems to be happening is that once the modded world triggers the MOD_CRITICAL_ERROR, it is no longer possible to load any other vanilla/unmodded world within the same gameplay session until the game is restarted.

It is also important to mention that we also requested that, if a vanilla world fails to load after a fresh launch of the game during your test, please provide us with the log files from that session as well. That would indicate a different issue and would help us investigate it further.

Please let us know the results of the test and do provide the logs if the issue also occurs when loading a vanilla world after a fresh game launch.

Thank you for your kind understanding.

Got it! I understand.

I was able to reproduce it in a fresh launch of the game, without ever loading any modded save.

I launched Space Engineers from Steam.

I clicked Quick Start.

It started to create the world, but then halted and gave me the same error message.

Attached are the log files for that session - which included only a new Quick Start game.

Hopefully that helps!

Thank you for looking into this!

Hello Damian,

Thank you for providing further information.

While reviewing the log file, it appears that some of the errors may be related to the game's core files. To address this, we recommend performing a clean installation of the game. A clean installation is a thorough process that ensures all remaining game files are removed before reinstalling.

To perform a clean installation, please follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers and copy the Saves and Blueprints folders to a different drive or folder.
  2. Uninstall the game.
  3. Remove any remaining files from the following locations:
  • \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers
  • \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SpaceEngineers

After completing the above steps, reinstall the game through Steam and check if the issue persists. If the issue is resolved, you can move your Saves and Blueprints folders back to \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

If the issue continues, please send us the latest log file so that we can investigate further.

Kind Regards,
