Game crashing frequently on RTX 5090 (Thread v0.2)

Investigating

As the original thread has died and been ignored by Keen. --> https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/48045-game-crashing-frequently-on-rtx-5090

I've been getting this issue previously on a RTX4090. I've just moved to a RTX5090 as of today. Fresh out the box as of an hour ago on 06/12/2025.

I have been seeing this issue as well. With the error code from DirectX11. Considering i have gone from 2 different generations of GPU. CPU, Motherboard, SSD has been changed. This can no longer be a "User issue". Please can we progress a fix on this. As a user who has 1745.1 hours on record for this game. It's disheartenning that the lack of support for this bug shown above with a generic bot response taken out of a first line ITIL process page is the only thing that is ever posted here by Keen.

@Keen fix this. Not been able to play properly for more than 20 minutes for the better half of 3 years since going from a RTX2080ti -> RTX4090 -> RTX5090.

Hello Daniel,

Thank you for reaching out on the forum. We sincerely apologize that this issue is still occurring, and we completely understand how frustrating it must be to deal with it for such a long time.

We want to assure you that this issue has not been ignored and is still under internal investigation. While we acknowledge that no permanent fix has been implemented yet, the workaround shared in the threads you mentioned remains the only available solution for the time being.

That said, to help us narrow this down further, we’d really appreciate a few more details from your side so we can better understand what might be triggering this specifically on your machine.

Could you let us know whether the issue occurs in single player, a lobby session, or on multiplayer servers? Also, does it happen only in modded sessions, or does it persist in a completely fresh vanilla (unmodded) world as well? This will help us determine whether MODs may be contributing, or if the behavior also appears in a clean setup.

Additionally, have you made any specific system or graphics-related changes for Space Engineers compared to other games that are not experiencing this issue? For example, under Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics, what GPU preference is currently selected for Space Engineers? If you try changing that setting, and disabling Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling under Advanced graphics settings, does it change the issue's behavior at all?

It would also help to check in the NVIDIA Control Panel under Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings. For SpaceEngineers.exe, which option is selected under “Preferred graphics processor”? If you switch it to another available option, apply the changes, restart your PC, and test again, does that make any difference?

If the issue still occurs or changes, please also share the log file (named SpaceEngineers_) from the time the issue occurred.

We understand you’ve already gone through several troubleshooting steps, and we know it’s not ideal to revisit more checks. However, the additional information can genuinely help us investigate this more thoroughly and move closer to a proper fix.

We truly appreciate your patience and the time you’re taking to help us dig deeper into this.

Kind regards,

Keen Software House: QA Department

Adding further detail as requested.

I only play single player. So only impacting single player. But i suspect it'll imapct multiplayer as well as you'll still be rendering assets.

I do not play with mods

I have hardware acceleration or HAGS turned off due to its know stability issues

Prefered performance in Nvidia control panel is set to Prefer Maximum performance. This is set globally.

Windows settings for GPU is set as "High Performance (NVIDA GeForce RTX 5090).

NVIDIA High Definition Audio driver has been disabled (Known for causing stability issues in drivers released for 4000 and 5000).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

System Sepcs :

This has happened on multiple different iterations of this system. Keep in mind i've basically replaced everything to the point where they can be classed as seperate systems. With multiple fresh installs of windows.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 1 - This was when it was known to be working without issues.

CPU : i9 9900

Motherboard : GByte Z390 AORUS EXTREME

GPU : Nvidia Geforce Gygabite Arorus 2080ti

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 2 - This is when the game was seeing these crash issues.

CPU : i9 13900k

Motherboard : ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO

RAM : 2x16GB Cors Veng RGB DDR5 5600

GPU : ASUS RTX 4090 ROG STRIX OC

PSU : Corsair HX1500i

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 3 - Remains not working

CPU : INTEL CORE ULTRA 9 285K RETAIL

Motherboard : ASUS ROG STRIX Z890-E GAMING

RAM : 2x16GB Cors Veng RGB DDR5 5600

GPU : ASUS RTX 5090 ASTRAL OC

PSU : Seasonic PRIME-PX 1600 ATX 3.0

Driver Version : Nvidia 581.80 (Because it is the most stable driver they've released so far. 590 and abover are riddled with issues).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

To end this off. Yes this still happens. Even after windows Cumlative update to resolve their performance instability issues when it came to GPU handling.

Adding another crash file. To eliminate it being a Windows 11 issue (As it's been plagued and riddled with performance issues. Microslop at their best). I've given it a try after a major windows update.

Results are the same.
