Unable to Blueprint grids or Upload worlds to the steam workshop

Need More Information

As of roughly the 8th of August, I have been unable to blueprint grids or upload worlds to the steam workshop. I already tried verifying file integrity, and that wasn't it. Whenever I try to upload a grid from my clipboard as a blueprint, it just goes to the top existing blueprint and refuses to blueprint the grid. I suspect the issue lays with steam cloud integration on the game's end.

Hello Engineer,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum. And we sincerely apologize for the delayed response to your thread.

From your description, it seems that your Cloud storage might be full, preventing you from saving additional Blueprints.

To resolve this, please follow these steps:

  1. From the Main Menu in the game.
  2. Select Options, then Game.
  3. Locate the Enable Cloud option and uncheck the box.
  4. Click OK to save the settings. Your new blueprints will now be saved locally on your device.

Alternatively, you can publish your blueprints from the cloud to Mod.io or the Steam Workshop, and then delete them from the Cloud to free up space. When publishing, you can set the visibility to Private so that only you can access them. This also allows you to access your blueprints from other devices via Mod.io or Steam Workshop.

For step-by-step instructions, please refer to the “How to Share Blueprints” section on this page. Please let us know if this helps.

Regarding publishing your world, does the issue occur only on Steam, or are you unable to publish it on Mod Io as well?

Kind Regards,

Tested it, and for some reason I am able to upload to mod.io but not the steam workshop. Trying to upload just gets an error and a grayed out image that goes to nowhere. A friend talked me through getting blueprinting working again by backing up my blueprints on an external drive, deactivating the cloud and re-adding the blueprints to a local storage folder.

Hello Engineer,

Thank you very much for reporting this issue and for already testing mod.io uploads and local blueprint workarounds.

Based on your description and the screenshots, it seems the error is related to the Steam Workshop connection, not the game itself.

Possible Causes :

Steam Workshop Legal Agreement not accepted

  • If you have not accepted or re-accepted Steam’s Workshop Legal Agreement, Steam will block uploads.
  • This also explains the greyed-out thumbnails and the “Error accessing service” message.

Steam client or account sync issues

  • Sometimes the Steam client cache gets stuck, or cloud sync conflicts occur.
  • This can prevent uploads even if everything looks normal.

Blueprint/Workshop data corruption

  • Old or corrupted workshop/blueprint data may cause errors when uploading.

Step-by-Step Workarounds :

1. Check and Accept Steam Workshop Legal Agreement

Via Steam Client:

  • Open Steam client.
  • Navigate to: Community → Workshop, or to Your Steam Name/ID → Content → Workshop Items tab.
  • You should see a banner that if you need to accept or update the Workshop Agreement. This is also visible in your shared image "Screenshot (256) png" where "View Legal Agreement" is written below your profile icon on the right side.
  • Click on it and follow the prompts to accept.

2. Update Payment Info (if prompted)

  • Sometimes Steam requires valid payment details even for free Workshop uploads.
  • Steam Client: Steam → Account Details → Add/Update Payment Info.

3. Verify Steam Client Connection

  • Restart Steam in online mode.
  • Log out → log back in.
  • Ensure Steam overlay works (Shift + Tab in-game).
  • Try uploading a small new test blueprint to Workshop.

4. Clear/Reset Workshop Cache (Advanced)

Backup your blueprints:

  • Location: \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints\local folder
  • Copy this local folder to a safe place.

Delete the old Workshop cache:

  • \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints\local
  • Re-import your backup files into the local folder.
  • Relaunch Steam and Space Engineers, then try again.

Please try the above steps in order (especially the Workshop Agreement acceptance). If the issue still occurs after trying these, let us know, whether it happens on all blueprints/worlds or only some.

Your update will help us narrow down whether this is an account-related Steam issue or something else.

Thank you again for your patience and for helping us investigate this.

Kind Regards,
