Unknown Signal setting not working

In my solo games I usually check the first 10 unknown signals, then disable them once I’ve progressed. I disable them in the game settings after reloading the save.

Currently, when I uncheck the box “Enable Unknown Signals”, click OK, and then re-enter the settings to confirm, the box is checked again. The change is not saved.:


  1. Go to Load game.
  2. Edit Settings of the game.
  3. Advanced settings
  4. Uncheck “Enable Unknown Signals”.
  5. Click OK to save.
  6. Re-open Advanced settings

I tried many time with the same result. I also tried changing other settings like "enable wolves" at the same time and check again, the "enable wolves" setting keep the new settings, but the "Enable unknown signals" always stay on

Could you please confirm if the issue you are experiencing is the same as the one discussed in this thread?

If so, could you try the workaround we shared there and check if it helps? If it is the same issue, as you may have noticed, we are already aware of it and have an internal ticket for it, which is why the thread is marked as “Reported.”

However, if your issue is different, please share a screen recording/video showing the issue, starting from the Main Menu > Load Game screen and onward. Please also provide the log file from the time when the issue occurred, so we can investigate further.

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

it is not the same issue (I already am in survival settings), but after testing some more i found that the issue is much less important. the bug is only a bug on the setting display. when i go into the game itself i found that the unknown signals are disabled. even if, when i go back into the setting and the box is checked

my recording software is not functioning so i took pictures of all the steps from the stating screen:

  1. Load game
  2. select the savegame
  3. click edit settings
  4. click advanced
  5. in encounter and NPC section uncheck the enable unknown signals click OK
  6. click advanced again
  7. go to the encounter and NPC section and you will see that the Box for unknown signals is checked again

However, if instead of reopening the settings I proceed directly to load the game, no unknown signals appear.


In short, the problem is only with the display in the settings menu; functionality in-game works as intended. This makes the issue minor.

I only found out about this issue because i developed the habit of always double checking the setting again by entering the window a second time and checking, in case I exited the windows by pression escape button instead of the OK button (something I do often)

For my purposes the matter is resolved, but I leave it to your discretion whether to investigate why the checkbox does not reflect the actual in-game state.

The issue you've described is indeed a duplicate of the report you linked in your comment.
