I'm not a fan of P autoconnection.
Far larger ships, seeing if the connector is close enough is very difficult. If the ship has a flat bottom, and slight pitch or yaw with respect to the platform will make the ship bounce and not connect.
If there are landing gear blocks they will, most likely, lock before the connector, or cause the ship to bounce rather than lock.
There have been times when the lock appears to has worked but the two connectors are misaligned and so the connection does not work.
If I use 3rd person view to align before touching P, the viewpoint jumps dramatically on a successful lock to a connector. An interesting success signal.
Anyway, if there are two connectors in range of each other , can you make forming a good connection be the first priority, bouncing the ship into finally position as needed. then locking any landing gear now in lockable proximity to to the environment.
