*disclaimer, i use AI as a sounding board to organize my thoughts on subjects, please feel free to correct anything within that looks... odd or inaccurate*

Core points:

  • Water as primary fuel stock:
  • water tanks + H2/O2 Generators for electrolysis to feed hydrogen/oxygen tanks.
  • Hydrogen as a buffer, not the root resource:Water → H₂/O₂ on demand for thrusters and life support. Thrusters also not JUST using hydrogen, but a truer hydrogen oxygen mixture for optimal boom.
  • Finite or semi‑finite water supply:What if worlds had fixed water volumes or regenerating systems.Hydro exhaust and ice meteorites as possible inputs.
  • Ship design implications:Heavier water tanks, CoM shifts, sloshing, handling changes. (assuming they arent pressurised tanks or we have both variations one cheaper early game, one more advanced)
  • Long‑term gameplay:
  • Exploration for water sources, pipelines, tankers, “water haulers” on Verdure.


Liquid water could become the primary fuel stock, with hydrogen being cracked from it on demand. Liquid water is a whole different monster than what we’re accustomed to with ICE as our baseline.

Liquid gives us higher density for the same space, and multiple ways it can RUIN our builds or shift entirely how we build. If water is fully volumetric, it stands to reason that it can be displaced, pooled, shifted, or even removed/added to an ecosystem over time.

We already have active weather systems, and if liquid water can somehow be incorporated INTO them (this might be way beyond scope, but it’s fun to imagine…), players could theoretically terraform planets through sheer force of will and engineering. I’m not saying I’ll be lining up to haul a percentage of ice from space and dump it onto Kimmek, but the potential for that kind of shift is there (even if it’s ambitious).

If nothing else, SE2 is AMBITIOUS. I think this sort of addition to the game would be right up its alley.

Keep in mind that it should be impossible to consume 100% of the water on a planet, as water only leaves a planet in very small amounts, so the game engine should only be calculating remaining water volume when the player fills in a water body or creates hydro-electric stations or something like that, not continuously calculating every liter of water.

right, but when a player drills out ice from a mountain, those voxels are now gone. poof...


a hydro electric plant would be using waters physical potential energy, not its atomic component energy. we arent using hydrogen when using a hydro electric plant. just the water moving "down stream" unless we are actively collecting (some of) that water and storing it in tanks for a seperate use.


my thoughts are the difference between Ice Melt, feeding high altitude lakes, feeding rivers, leading to oceans, which near the equator are subjected to evaporation feeding the snow/rain/ hydroecological cycle.


thats all just a ridiculously optimistic idea right now, but plausible.


the player impact is the removal, actively syphoning liquid water to fill tanks (which would have ended up in a lake or ocean) and because the water is volumetric, it (with enough players actively syphoning and using that source) could drain a small lake of that resource. unless its just automatically refilled by rain and there is no hydro ecological cycle to worry about.


a player base that feeds five players all with 500T hydro powered ships hauling whatever potentially rare resource to any given space or planet side location. personaly i could imagine a trade route of water to the desert biome, and that alone significantly changing an areas supply.


if that sort of scale is on the cards.... there is a lot more to consider than "ohh submarines" and even if its not, a 600T underwater station, that is half a kilometer squared volume can displace a fair amount of water.

Yeah, I had this as a general question regarding how the water will be involved in the future tutorial. Sending to go find ice when a lake is nearby, for example.
