Fed up with Big green box missions

As above.

Too many, too often, too similar.

The mission gave no indication it was going to be another 'big green box' thing.

I arrived at the site, I should have known better, the mission became a repeat of construction that I have done too many times, result - rage quit.

I know that this is a testing phase of the games development, it appears to be testing my patients more than anything else.

This opens up the question of engineering research trees tying to missions. Let's imagine that there are combat engineering, construction engineering, manufacturing engineering, etc. These would be specializations of sorts and in addition to the basic block performance, if you specialize in one of these blocks that fall into these categories might perform better. You can only pick one specialization per space buddy. So say you specialize in aeronautical engineering, your atmospheric thrusters are a little lighter, use a little less power and have a little better thrust than someone who is a general engineer.

Now, how does that relate to the OP feedback? Well, missions would be grouped into these branches, so the green box missions might be construction engineering focus. If you hate them, don't specialize in construction engineering and focus on combat engineering or whatever. The missions would need to reward differently so it's not unlocking the blocks as much as 'experience' towards your specialization. Block licenses or schematics would come differently in this case, see tons of other feedback about 'better' ways of providing block knowledge.

I do not hate the idea of Big green boxes, I do have a problem with their current implementation. Each one needs to be unique, the mission type needs to be clearly stated when choosing a mission at the contract terminal. The variety of contract/mission types needs to be extended, I liked the direction of where some of the older missions were going and wonder why that the thumbnails are still being used, but the missions are gone. There is little in the way of progression for the missions apart from resourcing and license requirements. The repetitive nature of the missions without new revelation or challenge variation is a grind. Delivery missions are a very one sided contract. Many missions are set at a 35 to 40km distance, making the journey time to them feel overly familiar.

I am sure that all of my gripes are the result of work in progress. The contract mission system will need a constant supply of creative input to keep it fresh. I think for it work well it will need a small team to be dedicated to its development for the life of the game.

One branch on this feedback if it's not there already is that the mission system should definitely support modding, so that creative people can create added missions and stuff them into the mission console. I think that would generate a lot of added value.
