Missing Items

Josh shared this bug 20 days ago
Solved

I had 11 metal grids in my player inventory. I interacted with the contract terminal, looked at a few storage chest inventories, and boom, now I have 1. nothing was built, nothing was dropped, nothing was purchased or sold. I have noticed this on previous occasions, but never was absolutely sure. Figured I was imagining it. This time, I caught it.

Repeatable? I don't know. I'll keep an eye on it.

Hello Josh,

I could not reproduce this issue. Have you tried verifying the Game files after update?

I noticed in the mission to deliver 50k iron, I put 52k and it ate all 52k, which is interesting because most missions like salvage etc you can take all components after the mission ends.

I experienced multiple instances of this – all from various interactions however; this one description describes three different circumstances:

1 – As previously described, putting in more than the consignment request for (i.e. for me, 5200 gold instead of 5000.) It ate them all, when the expected behavior would have been more along the lines of a “auto-split” – take the 5000, leave 200.

2 – Multiple instances of dropping items from inventory, either intentionally attempting to drop or accidentally (right-clicking on a data pad to read it is pretty instinctive at this point) – in SE2 it not only drops from inventory but the item completely disappeared. I had this happen multiple times. I was expecting the items to be laying at my feet – but they were completely gone.

3 – Most surprising and unexpected: items temporary stored in the small amount of inventory space of a connector was completely removed from game when the connector was accidentally grinded off. (I was attempting to relocate a cargo container, and moved inventory temporary into a connector to make this happen… being a little bit nervous about all the stuff that had disagreed when being dropped from inventory as described above!) Predictably, I grinded down those connectors before moving the stuff out of it, and rather than its inventory dropping on the ground (expected behavior) or showing up in my character inventory (unexpected but acceptable behavior), the items disappeared from the game.

No – I didn’t scan the game file to see where the items ended up in case they existed somewhere: They weren’t at my feet, and that was all I needed to know. The number of times that stuff disappeared unexpectedly shows me there may be some kind of an issue at play. I hadn’t noticed this happening in any previous sessions. I wondered if the new "wind mechanics" were blowing the stuff out of sight REALLY FAST, but even if that were the case, it would be both unrealistic and unexpected.

Hello Calexar7,

1 - As far as I know, Contracts should only take the amount needed for its completion. Please create a new thread for this issue.

2 - I could not reproduce this on my side, however dropped items spawn in the same place meaning, if two or more stacks / kinds of items are dropped, they will land on each other and then most likely move away - especially if in Planet's gravity. Do you happen to have a video recording of this issue?

3 - This is a known issue, which is already reported internally and tracked in this thread: https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers2/pc/topic/50843-grinding-a-cargo-assembler-etc

When you are grinding down an object, and your inventory becomes full, dropping the items is very inconvenient. SE1 just fixed Ore dropping when mining, why is SE2 going the other way? Dropped items sometimes are impossible to locate.

I also miss the ability to store items in uncompleted objects. When redesigning a mining rig, sometimes I'd stack new drills off to the side, click once to store all the required items in the drill, but don't take the time to weld it up. Then when I'm ready to put the drill back on the rig, I could just grind the incomplete frame, and boom, have exactly 1 drill's worth of resources ready to go.

@Bartosz: Thanks for the prompt reply. Unfortunately it has not been consistent. I just noticed this time because I was on Verdure, doing the quest for 35 metal grids. I checked what I had, 7 in my inventory, 4 in ship. I grabbed them all, so I had 11. I then checked the trade terminal to see how much they cost, checked a few nearby crates, and within just a minute or two later, noticed I now only had 1 metal grid. I re-checked every storage nearby, all over the ground, and no luck. I was inside the first safe zone the entire time. No building, no sales, no missions completed.

I have been trying to watch carefully though.

Also, right click to drop is VERY inconvenient too. I have a twitchy right click finger, so I am always dropping things randomly. At least let us re-bind it or something. Dropped more than one datapad too as others stated before.

Hello Josh,

I see, I was still unable to reproduce this issue with disappearing items. Would you be able to record this and attach the video here?

As for the RMB to drop - please create a feature request on our Feedback section.

A video is unlikely, as I have been unable to reproduce the issue myself. However, I have noticed it maybe 4 or 5 times in 54 hours of playtime so far. And most of those times, it was a Feeling, like I thought I had more of those...... This time, I was sure, so I reported it. But I'll try.

Also, I spent much of my time in creative, so my Survival play time is much less than that.

Hello Josh,

Roger, since you said you have tendency to drop items accidentally (I also have very twitchy right click finger :) ), it is possible that the items were dropped accidentally to the ground and rolled away as dropped items spawn in the same place meaning, if two or more stacks / kinds of items are dropped, they will land on each other and then most likely move away - especially if in Planet's gravity.

As such, I will close this thread however, if you will be able to reproduce the items disappearing, please create a new thread and if possible attach a video.

Happy Engineering!

I tried for over 2 hours to cause it to repeat. no luck.

RMB dropping items was one of my theories too, except I am missing PART of a known stack. 11 down to 1.

And finally, I tried investigating the dropped item roll theory. I dropped a known rolling item, 20 Ice, and followed it. Since I was at a known location when it occurred, I tested this all throughout the safe zone, and they all went to the same place. no metal grids there

Closing it is fine, I can update here if something new happens.
