Water tight lock gates

With VS3 water will be a part of SE2.

So water engineering will be another player challenge.

Moving boats through canals will be a thing.

Water pumps and water generators have been mentioned.

Canals have height changes through the use of locks.

Locks need water tight gates

Water tight gates should be an XL block of at least 5x5 2.5m blocks in size.

Two gates one left and one right should be able to work together to form one large gate.

Gates could be stacked as well for greater height.

I wonder if such a water tight gate would be air tight too.

That would mean gates up to 25m wide by 12.5m x n long, what could you use those for?

Wont that be resolved using a hinge, rotor or pistons and a merge block when that comes out? just make a path for the water, make your gate with a slit for your gate, then merge it when its closed? seems fairly straightforward and easy, or if we get airtight hangar doors again, that probably works fine too. i think your a little ahead of yourself, like i could make a gate like that functional in SE as the game is currently, so why would it be an issue in a game with "onegrid", better physics and less klang

Yes you could engineer this, but how much PCU do you want to use? You could easily end up using 20+ lock gates, at what cost? Hangar doors were always too small and the gates in SE1 were far too weak. I am not sure that merge blocks are the right way to go when there is the opportunity to add new methods to SE2. As for being ahead it has been stated that while VS2.2 was under development that VS3 and VS4 were being worked on simultaneously by different teams. VS2.3 will bring hinges and will be worked on in the coming weeks, as such getting these thoughts out now is appropriate.

I would like to see air tight seals working between grids and sub grids if it is at all possible.

XL blocks started as a mod in SE1, they can save PCU having them in SE2 makes sense, an XL swing door could make sense too.

I do admire your builds, but not everyone is as competent in this respect.
