Atmospheric turbulence feedback

Under Consideration

Im thrilled by the hydrogen thrusters visual feedback, and the general sound, would be great to add some speed proportional turbulence, at least as a sound specially at high speeds. And hovering could feel more massive if the floor has some dust and even better wind gust. Some atmosphere fighting would go a long way, doesnt need to be cinematic or expensive.

I like the idea of turbulence. This leads into the concept of atmospheric and stellar winds, which leads into the concepts of weather - both planetary and stellar. I am not sure when such systems, if ever will be introduced, but I like the idea.

And wind should be affecting grids as well. High winds would make it almost impossible to fly, small grids would simply not have enough thrust to counter the wind speed. Grids should "wobble" more trying to counter the wind and the turbulences created by it, so it would be much harder to hover precisely in place.

I like the idea, a massive interplanetary ship would have both huge mass and cross section, it would make amazing disruption soundtrack. Maybe there could be a correlation between section/area to drag,

I would much prefer it if the game had a properly designed flight and airflow model.

Features such as turbulence would automatically result from this.

Introducing turbulence as a separate entity is nonsense.

Of course we want more detail, but not knowing the process budget i would like some feedback, it goes a long way. A proper atmospheric LUT resistance and some effects would be super cheap and immersive. Small effects details add a lot of context.

Hmm... So it doesn't matter if things work properly, but mainly that they look good?

How it wouldnt matter if it doesnt work right?, i was just refering to sterile approach, best race sims calculate gazillion parameters to offer a static POV camera or lack of air mass crashing around the car from external cameras. Realism means some perception tricks too. Just that.

Proper aerodynamics and weather implementation resulting into more interesting and immersive flight model : Absolutely Yes.

Cheap and nonsensical "turbulence effect" out of nowhere, GTAV style : Hell No.

Im all up for realistic systems, for me the perfect game would have flight of nova reentry mechanics. I see you dont like the idea of a cosmetic feature. I didnt want to ask for a complex realistic system, but of course i can agree on desirability over fake effects.

Thanks really glad to hear the hydrogen thruster visuals and sound are landing well.

The ideas you’re raising here around speed-based audio turbulence, and environmental feedback like dust displacement and wind gusts during hover, are exactly the kind of “feel” improvements we agree can add a lot of weight to movement and flight without requiring overly cinematic systems.

These are the kinds of atmospheric/feedback enhancements we’re actively iterating on as part of polishing moment-to-moment ship control and immersion. I’ve passed your suggestions on to the team for consideration, especially the idea of scaling audio and subtle environmental reaction with velocity and thrust.

Appreciate the feedback small details like this can make a big difference.
