Hoping for SE1 with SE2 improvements

In SE1, if i wanted to build and test freely, i would ENTER CREATIVE MODE.

I often see people argue that SE2 should remove "barriers to entry" of basic problem solving, ingots, manufacturing, and just go straight to creative building... ( just use creative mode then).

Uh, creative mode is a testing ground to solve stuff.

The Survival mode shouldn't be a cakewalk.

now, we have ALWAYS CREATIVE. No supply chains, no logistics (except pipes), no need for large upgradeable manufacturing. the cardinal sin of FAST TRAVEL in a survival game. ( I like the battery system though ) ((see im not unreasonable))

In SE1, I loved overcoming production needs with multiple refineries, a few assemblers, ship printers, and balancing station/ship power, mobility and tonnage, travel.

I have zero reason in SE2, to build a mobile rover base, that needs custom suspension to handle 50 million tons across the front car, and trailers, since refining is done in my backpack..... wait... so all i need is a cargo container, my backpack, and a solar panel?

I mean, the reason we build large impressive ships is to haul around metric tons of ingots and parts.. which is now... not needed... just like a jump drive is useless if you have FAST TRAVEL

What will kill this game is putting training wheels on.

What will murder the game, as if they hated SE1 and their fans, is removing what made SE1 great, ( and also the programmable blocks/timers/ and other things ), removing the game from the game and adding FAST TRAVEL

It seems they want to make the game as wide as an ocean to appeal to everyone ( and nobody ) while reducing its depth from endlessly deep with endless possibilities to as shallow as a kids swimming pool with non-optional arm floaties. ( i beg that im wrong in the future )

Like, in the current state ( obviously its not done ), i can slap 6 engines on a cockpit, 1 gyro, 1 cargo, 1 solar and never need a single thing more.

With this simple setup, i can skip the entire engineering process forever, adding 1 block or changing parts on the fly with my 10 block shitbox. especially since travelling is just pushing FAST TRAVEL

reminds me of a certain villain called Syndrome "when everyone is super, no one will be".

or "when everyone can do anything without solving problems, nobody is intelligent"

nothing will be impressive (aside from some interior design), since there is no obstacles to overcome (except finding ore which converts straight to components in my backpack).

Honestly, I'll keep playing SE1 unless MODS or changes happen to make SE2 actually fun. (add ingots/ remove or change backpack refineries etc), REMOVE FAST TRAVEL

Like sure, designing ships is fun, I can do with with a pencil and paper, and Blender.

I can do that many other places/games. (SE1, Avorion, and a million more)

The "engineer" part is not "interior design", it was solving logistical problems and resource demands in efficient ways.

If thats too hard for a "gamer", then they lost their touch with their core audience.

If you want proof that widening the market can kill a game/franchise, look at marvel/disney/etc.

They made comic book stuff for "everyone", now they lose money on each and every film they make, make negative dollars on comic sales, and have cancelled 80% of their announced shows since 2018.

They deviated from niche and unique, to bland and much too common, with "hey my fellow kids" humor, caving to non-audience demands, and no clue what real marvel/disney fans want.

But whatever, Keen can go and do something different, that's their choice.

They might even get a ton of sales at full release.

But we all will know that *if* SE2 has no depth, SE1 will continue to have more players, and average players/playtimes and "having legs" and "word of mouth" will die so horribly they will be a repeat of No Mans Sky's launch, and I would press X to doubt on them doing miracles to fix a mistake that big.

Keen, i want you to be a better than NMS, ( they have ingots and production chains and its fun )

SE1 was amazing because of its depth, detailed and complex systems, diverse scenarios and need for critical thinking.

thats what gave it such an amazing reputation.

why would i put tons of time in a game for it to be a hollow ( good looking) shell that in the end, isnt fun to play.

so you've been here reading this,

so summary:

GOOD THINGS:

- graphics

- block size options

- mouse steering ( sometimes ) make it a toggle please dear god, ( and not just Alt ), (( flying laterally while facing sideways then mouse steering takes over and your ship steers hard and self destructs ))

- crunchy parts that are fun to destroy

- voxel improvements

- the battery core things

BAD THINGS: ( not in order )

- sound design so far, stepping off of a 0.5cm ledge sounds like Hulk landing from terminal velocity.

- no black visor option yet ( please add black/clear options for visor, even chrome or gold, the uncanny faces spook me)

- backpack refinery/assembler god-hacker-mode that feels like cheating. ( just bring back survival kits, or make it less convenient/efficient than a good logistics setup. )

- FAST TRAVEL ( add warp gates like any wide spanning space game, or get rid of "sectors" ) and just load the sectors but seamlessly please dear god for the love of all that is sacred and holy you say this is survival yet i can fast travel at zero cost.

- removal of ingots and manufacturing (80% of what engineering is).

- no code terminal/control panel as of writing this

- lacking many engineering blocks ( rotors/pistons/hinges) as of writing this.

- i dont like the UI, the original SE1 looked far more polished and stylish.

- no enemy factions yet, threats, starvation, radiation, or need for guns as of writing this.

- and many more, but alas!

My solution to getting rid of FAST TRAVEL:

1. add faction controlled gates that charge a fee,

2. let seamless travel happen between areas, ( unload an area in some mid section, then load any sections you move into ) similar to a LOD distance for planets/trees etc. so essentially you arent loading the entire world, ( since thats probably your reasoning ), yet make it optional.

the only fast travel should have a cost, and similar to skyrims carriages, or warp gates, shorten travel times drastically without breaking immersion or a sense of having "walls".

for reference, i only play SE1 with full solar system. I want seamless exploration. ( i mod to make ships go up to 1000m/s, and i love warp drives as they are in SE1 )

This makes for actually needing Haulers, Cargo dedicated ships, carriers, and Jump Ships.

Thank you for all you do, especially making Space Engineers 1 my most played game on Steam.

Do not make a "beautiful" but shallow unfun product.

Give me some engineering challenges and deep tech systems to conquer.
