Future Vulkan Renderer support for better performance & good Linux support

As a long-time fan of Space Engineers, I’d love to see Vulkan support added to SE2. It’s a game-changer for both performance and Linux compatibility.

Right now, the game relies on DirectX 11, which is solid but holds back multi-core CPU usage and Linux support. Vulkan, on the other hand, is built for modern hardware, reducing CPU overhead and boosting FPS, especially in complex scenes. That means smoother gameplay, better frame pacing, and less stutter—something we all want in a physics-heavy game like this.

And let’s talk Linux. Currently, we’re stuck with Proton, which works but isn’t perfect. Vulkan would mean native Linux support, fewer crashes, and better performance for those of us not on Windows. It’s a win for accessibility and future-proofing.

Sure, it’s a big task for the devs, but the payoff—better performance, broader platform support, and a happier community—is totally worth it. If games like Doom Eternal and Red Dead Redemption 2 can do it, why not SE2? Let’s make it happen!
