[Feature Request] Thruster (and Weapon) Statistics

Hello,

My main issue with SE1 is the unclear performance of thrusters. A large atmospheric thruster doesn't always perform identically to a flat large atmospheric thruster, for example. At least, that's how it behaves. Sure, by name and design I can observe it, but the issue is other thrusters are often just design replacement. Thats not the case here. It would be helpful if SE2 displayed thruster performance statistics. A simple categorization like "Atmosphere: weak | good | fantastic" would be an improvement. Even better would be specific numerical values. Calculating the required thrust for a given weight (XY) is nearly impossible in SE1, as available calculation websites are outdated and unreliable.

Maybe we can achieve that for weapons too.

Let me know what you think.

I am not from Keen.

You will be asked to provide a lot more information, preferably with numbers. Large-grid Large atmospheric thruster provides about 2.5x the thrust as the Flat-Large atmospheric thruster, so they can't be identical. This is from game data and the old SE1 wiki. You can see similar info with game mod BuildInfo. Since atmospheric and ion thrusters have efficiency based on altitude the good/weak would change.

The best solution - based on atmospheric density. You don't have to worry about pressure or atmospheric composition.

Among other things, this is because the thrust of a jet engine depends on the flow rate (= mass of gases or liquids) and the speed of the flow. And mass is density multiplied by volume.

What's more, it's the physically correct solution for all engines that don't burn atmospheric gases.

...I mean I am absolutely behind seeing more numbers, it would be super helpful when creating block-spreadsheets for reference in designs, but have you actually looked at the thruster's control panel tab? You can see the max power draw listed there, and (in the correct environment) you can use thrust-override to see the maximum thrust.

After writing with Dan2d3d, I agreed with him, that my feature request is missing some indepth description.

I currently have no time due vacation to getting more deeper into it (maybe creating mockups). I am sure, that my inital feature request is also not the correct way of doing it. It feels more like we need an ingame wiki, just like the PDA Wiki in the older STALKER titles. Of course an external wiki would be okay too.
