Block Packaging Machine and pallet storage

Creates portable containers that contain exactly the correct components to build specific block(s).

A package can contain the materials for single machines

or can contain 10s of standard 2.5m blocks or 100s of standard 0.5m blocks.

The packages can be stored in quantity on a pallet.

Packages and pallets can be warehoused, but not placed in standard containers.

Packages can be moved and placed by an engineer or a package move block.

Packages and pallets can be unpacked into standard containers via a collector.

Packages and pallets are 'sticky'(like landing pad) and will remain in place until an engineer or machine moves them.

As for the Why.

From Marek's blog(May 8/25), 'The heart of Space Engineers 2's gameplay is the new colonization system.'

The palletised packages could form starter kits for colony building.

The packaging machine's job list can be set from a list of block types or from a blueprint.

I don't know where astronauts would even keep the wood handy to make pallets lol. It seems hugely inefficient and improbable that space engineers would store components on pallets.

When there is no resistance to what you can do, there is no game.

My interest is in the creation of build kits, this can be done with containers, but this is too easy and limited on visuals. By using packages of exact contents and pallets to transport or store the packages, the idea of moving materials to build colony installations becomes more defined. You would not be transporting just a bulk of components, but the parts of a predefined structure. This is not traditional for SE, but would be the rational planned approach to building colony structures for an organised civilization. This would not suit everyone, but if there is an emphasis on colonisation then construction kits for ready made designs would be one approach. I am not saying don't do it the old fashioned way, this is just to add a stylistic choice.

Packages and pallets stored in warehouses also looks good. Drones fetching and placing goods would make a good project for someone.

This would make me think about habitation modules, e.g. but that would have to player made, maybe an idea for a scenario or start. Packaging containers or something wouldn't necessarily remind me of that. Or are you referring to having container type packages that held a batch of components at once, with a specific quantity in terms of size and were also physical items in the world?

I am imagining that if you had a blueprint for a building, you could set the packaging machine to make packages for all of the blocks in that blueprint. Each package would contain the build components for a block, if the block is simple like an armour block, then the package could contain the components for ten or so armour blocks. If the block is more complex like a door then the package may contain the components for 1 or 2 doors.

The packages would be dispensed by the packaging machine.

The next bit I am unsure on, which would be putting packages on to a pallet. Doing this manually would, be tedious. The packaging machine could produce the packages and load them onto a pallet, but that may not be the best solution.

The packages would be physical item containers, but limited for specific use.

The packages would require visual labelling, this could be as simple as a number for quantity and a picture of a block. This would avoid the need to inspect each one individually.

Not sure what to do with the empty packages, should they just disappear or create eco waste?

I do like SE cargo containers, and the conveyor system, but I also like the shelving blocks, freight boxes, barrels, and would like an advancement on that theme.
