Would be nice to have a vanilla elevators:

I think this block is a must-have. I've attempted many ship builds with pistons for elevators, and they take up too much space on my ship and do not work well for just having a simple elevator for your ship. I think having the option to have a simple block work as an elevator is best for players who don't want to compromise the design of their ships to add something that completely changes how the ship looks and functions.

Blocks that allow for intuitive and functional elevator designs are certainly needed. Not sure it needs to be implemented like the mods though. I think small mechanical blocks (pistons, hinges, and rotors) can handle the task if they have sufficient variants, good control, and block collision can be properly avoided in tighter tolerances.

if the new engine allows sub grids, to operate as a sub components of a parent grid; then yeah, this would be great to have.

In one of the screenshots of the "hotfix" it showed us gears. Im certain we will be able to utilize these in some way later on, which may be useful for building our own elevators.
But i agree, having some sort of focus on Elevators for us, is huge i think. Up vote!
