"Voxel" armour blocks.

It would be nifty if we could have "voxel" armour blocks that create a mesh in a similar way to voxels or, equivalently, the ability to convert an entire asteroid into a dynamic grid (provided we can afford the PCU cost), either as a form of cheap ablative armour, asteroid mining or as a kinetic weapon.

The ability to convert a voxel object to a moving grid and vice versa would certainly be interesting.

Albeit with various restrictions - only "pristine object" undamaged by mining, no voxel - grid interconnections (i.e. no buildings on the object)

Wouldn't that be the whole point? You find asteroid, you live on asteroid, you build thrusters, gyros, power on asteroid.

You convert to ship asteroid + base and fly off?

You'd almost have to have a voxel-grid interconnection to get a terminal for the voxels.

Arguably, there are two components; voxel armor blocks that look like voxels (i.e. have a generated mesh depending on how 'welded' any particular voxel is), and a method for converting voxels into voxel armor such that it still looks about the same.
