We all know how popular mods that reduce tool noise are—they come in various forms, like reducing only the drill noise, muting all tools but keeping weapon sounds, and so on.
Here's a simple and intuitive in-game solution: similar to how pressing J opens the helmet, we could have a key combination like Shift+J to activate "Active Hearing Protection." This feature would significantly reduce all loud sounds in the game.
We already have something like this in real life, and I think the spacefaring folks in the SE universe would have it too! I think it would be rad for immersion.

I too feel like it would be nice to disable certain annoyongly loud sounds without affecting others.

I have to agree. especially the sound for landing on platforms currently in SE 2. that's insanely loud on its own and i have the SFX set to 25. I enjoy the sound as a whole, but its volume should be adjusted down as its far to noticeable rn.
