Retractable landing gears? Can we have them?

In my entire SE1-SE2 experience has been for the desire to land my ship - in a cool way using retractable landing gears, it would really add life and interest to our ships if you will add this to the game, we know it's possible and a few have tried it but I believe the game should be mostly mod free about the basics of creativity in the SE2 game, please add functional landing gears!

I agree with this. Yes, we can build retractable landing gears using pistons, but many people don't really understand some of the complex things you can do with pistons, and most of us build our ships with not a lot of room to add these really large blocks to extend a landing gear. The current landing gear mod works well, but for a few issues with it, when it's retracted, it still takes up the same collisions as if it were deployed. The current landing blocks, being static blocks always on the outside of our ships, mess with the aesthetics of the ship's design, and having a simple block we can use to retract the landing gear and deploy it would help immensely.

I think that damping landing gears would be even more important than retracting ones. You can build retracting gears with pistons, hinges and rotors, however they are not damping. It would be cool if those blocks would have a damping mode besides their ability to do motion. E.g. you would extend a piston and then switch to damping mode and specify a target position, a strength and damping factor.
