Add Armor Blocks that can be scaled dynamically

Add armor blocks that can be scaled on one or more axis of the block. I've attached a picture with an example of what I mean.

The first example shows ramps with differing lengths. The first block is a normal 1x1x1 ramp. The second block is already possible with the blocks available in SE-1 and SE-2 by combining different blocks.

Now if we could scale these blocks in their different dimension/directions, we could create more block variants and for the sake of th exmaple, ramps with less steep angles, to be able to make longer ships, without getting a stepped look.

It's a bit hard to explain, I hope the pictures help. This would open up so many options for building and shaping the hulls of our ships.

Thank you for reading. Please leave a vote if you like this idea.

PS: A game which does this really well is Avorion. You can make ramps like 1x1x5 or even 1x1x20 or whatever size you want, which helps immensly for building cleaner hulls.

Sounds like similar topic as mine:

So, yeah, I agree totally and I think that would be the best solution, if I don't miss something here.

I had the exact same thought! Being able to drag out armour slopes, and it'll automatically divide each slope into the right blocks, right? I think that's what you were saying judging by the pictures. That would be fantastic!

I see there a problem on your second image. How do you normally get some of the blocks in between? You would need here a snapping solution or anything like that to fix that issue.

Possibly by having a minimum size the block needs to be drawn before a segment can form, or by having the dragging of the block stepped in 0.25m / 0.5m / 2.5m steps.

Left a like on your post as well ;) Thank you for sharing!

I think I'd auto-segment the blocks when they have reached a length/height ratio of more than three, with the new blocks being tip and base parts like in SE1. In the first image the 1x1, 1x2 and 1x3 could remain. The 1x4 would be split into a tip of 0.5 x 2 and a base of 1 x 2. Think of the tip as the 1x2 ramp at half height, hence 0.5. The same scheme would also support a 0.5 x 3 tip and a 1 x 3 base, for a total ramp length of 6.

That would reasonably limit how long and thin the parts ripped out of the armor in an accident or under fire are. As cool as Avorion is, for comparison, having a slender wedge shot out of your armor looks weird.
