Step counter

A step counter counts events, a timer counts time.

Using the pause function on a timer does not generate accurate measurement of logical actions, it can measure a timings. Different events may have different timings, this is not the same as counting the number of events. A step counter will count the number of events.

Counter step could run up to <max limit> or down to 0

A step counter could have a trigger limit at which it could operate a switch.

A step counter could be reset by an event.

A step counter is a valuable tool to have when it comes to automation.

Possible optional feature of the step counter could be the translation of the step value into another value like a distance, a percentage, or a rotation for use with other blocks.

A counter block could count how many times a door was opened, or a piston was operated, or a sensor had been triggered. It could be set to count up or down. A trigger count could be set for example to 5, after five events were counted the counter would trigger a switch, it could set off an alarm, or the count down on a warhead. When used in combination with other blocks, predictable events would be harder to pin down to a cause.

You could how many times a rotor has completed a revolution,

Combing timers, counters and event controllers would be awesome.

Here is a counter chip, it costs a little over £0.30p.

I have attached the data sheet for the chip.

Did you ever use a piston or a rotor for that ? ;)
