Character progression / skill point system

I will first say, there should be technological progression through better tools, modules, things like that.

But I really enjoy it when games do skill point systems.

Lets say every skill can be maxed up to 10 points. You get points by doing things. Either one type of skill point or split it up into a few categories.

Here are some ideas for character skills:

  • Run speed
  • Jump height
  • Tool reach
  • Luck (possibility of getting 2x ore from mining for example - critical hit :D)
  • Energy capacity/efficiency
  • Hydrogen capacity/efficiency
  • Inventory capacity
  • Health
  • Social skills for when NPC are added (negotiate better prices and rewards and such)

Comment more skill ideas.

This would be nice if it was worked into the space suits, so you could switch space suits to switch modifiers

An example would be getting a space suit that has a maximum of say 30 points, and the more you drill by hand, the more the suit's "Proficient Miner" stat increases giving you a greater yield when mining.

The more you fly around without the booster, the more the suit's "Efficient Flight" Stat goes up, reducing the power requirements of your jetpack and slightly boosts your top speed from 72 to 108.

The more you Weld, the more the suit's " Builder" Stat goes up increasing your welding range.

Would make Armories in Airlocks actually useful and not just for show.

Indeed, it’s a great idea to allow players to upgrade only 2-3 modifications per suit and then change them through a special wardrobe station. This would introduce an entirely new gameplay mechanic related to player customization. Currently, our character is forced to wear the same spacesuit throughout the entire game, and we don’t even have the option to take it off.

Such a system would enable creating different equipment sets for various in-game tasks: one for exploration, another for combat, and a third for construction. Sometimes it even feels like we’re playing not as a human in space, but as a suit with a human picture inside! ahaha
