Cant steer rover

Chris shared this bug 4 years ago
Solved

Playing on original XB1. Playing survival on earth like planet. I retrofitted the respawn shuttle with 4 5x5 wheel suspension wheels. Both front wheels have steering box checked but will not steer. Even tried sliding “steer override” over to both ends (assuming it operates like a wheel alignment) and the rover only goes straight.

Do you have a gyroscope equipped? if so, you need to turn down the power. I had similar issue on my rover, removed 1 of 2 gyros and reduced its power to around 30%.

Yes, gyro is equipped. Are you saying that a gyro will completely keep the steering wheels pointed straight ahead as if I weren’t trying to turn?

When I built my rover and installed a gyro, i would drive forward but when attempting a turn, the wheels would turn but i would keep sliding forward. A gyro's job is to maintain a position, and when you turn, you are fighting its purpose and losing. That is when you need to play with the power level to see what works best for you. I only turn power to 100% on a rover when my rover is on it's back and i need to use the gyro to roll it back on its wheels. Too many gyros can also cause a problem. If your issue isn't the gyro and the steering box is checked but wheels don't move, perhaps your steering angle slider got moved? By default its set to 20%.

I Messed around with it more. Gyro is set to zero and no improvement. Steering angles are at 20 and had no effect when adjusted. I’m Starting to think I’ve got a bug.

You might have the steer override on .000001 or something. If you hold LB+RB then left-left-right on the d-pad, you'll reset it back to true "0.0". Think this happens when you use D-pad to page over to the controls of the Control Panel rather than left stick like KSH intended. You'll make minute adjustments to sliders wherever the cursor lands rather than just moving the cursor over. Same deal with thrusters and accidentally turning on thrust override.

I don’t think this is the case but I will verify it. If nothing else, now knowing those button commands should be helpful!

They move the slider in increments of 50% of the bar so this should reset it back to the dead center. If your wheels don't turn in response to your inputs I'd guess it's this or you've unchecked the steering thing on the control seat. If they're turning fine but your vehicle won't change its course then I'd guess either gyros or your wheels are fighting each other.

Hello,

Could you please provide us with more information regarding the issue you reported? I wasn't able to reproduce it. To report a bug into our system it is necessary to have reliable steps to reproduce in order for programmers to fix it. If you could upload the blueprint of affected vehicle, it would help as well.

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

I had the same problem but how i fixed it was i grouped all the wheels together and on one of the hotkey slots and set wheel group to steer overdrive to reset and then use that hotkey and it should in theroy it should work. i think its a bug or something with the steer overdrive.

Hello, Engineers!

This issue should get resolved in version 194.057 once it gets released.

Awesome. Will the fix also affect the accidental thruster override thing?

It's just an issue when using the d-pad to move from the list of blocks to the right and onto the controls of the block and having the "cursor/highlight" land on a slider. Doing that makes a small adjustment to that slider. If you use the left stick to move over then there isn't an issue.

Think moving from the right side where the group naming thing is would also cause the same problem but I haven't tried.
