Turrets not pulling ammo

I have large grid turrets (gattling and autocanons) attached with large conveyors to large cargo containers. The turrets will not pull ammo despite having 1,000 rounds of the appriopriate ammo types in the cargo container. I can manually drop and drop the ammo into the turrets and they will begin shooting but they will not do it on there own. Once they run out of ammo they will not reload either. Please help.
