Subgrid Thruster Smoke

John Dawson shared this bug 3 months ago
Reported

This might not be a bug, but something that may need work going forward as subgrids get more optimisation and support, which is one of the most requested features that might be fixed as updates arrive, but this may help keep you informed.

The bug in question, as shown in the attached video, shows that if you build with sub-grids and have sub-grid parts in the path of a thruster, although outside the burn radius, it doesn't damage them and will act like you are flying close to a planet surface, generating a smoke effect. as shown in the video. I've attached the same subgrids via merge blocks, and the smoke effect isn't present, but subgrids at the same distance cause this issue.

This may not be solvable until further subgrid support is implemented, but hopefully, this will help resolve an issue before then or when you guys work towards that stage.

I play on Xbox, specifically a Series X, but almost a year ago, when the build in the video was shown in the refit competition by Xocliw, it was generating smoke, so it's unlikely to be a console-only problem.

Hopefully, this helps, and maybe we will see a result in due time.

Thanks anyway for reading.

Hello Engineer,

Thank you for contacting Keen Software House. We are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues.

Could you please publish a blueprint of a grid that is presenting you with issues and share a link in this thread?

Thank you for your patience.

Here's the blueprint on modio as it was when it was uploaded for the competition. It will generate smoke by default strafing left or right then If you delete the inner hinge and merge the winglets at the same angle youll see the non subgrid to the version with subgrids as shown in the video. https://mod.io/g/spaceengineers/m/xf-1000-mk-2
