EOS Servers constantly rolling back 30 minutes every 6 hours resulting in lost work

Chris shared this bug 10 months ago
Solved

Two related issues:

1) No in-game good.bot notification of pending server restart, which appears to occur every 6 hours.

2) While some EOS servers are set to backup every 5 minutes most are set to backup every 30 minutes. This results in a 30 minute rollback after every server restart. Ideally, the servers should save their state at the beginning of the restart command.

A review of the Server Details shows the following:

US-EOS #12, 11, 10, 8, 7, 6, 1 are on 30 minutes autosave..

US-EOS #4, 3, 2 are on 5 minutes autosave..

UK-EOS #2, 1 are on 30 minutes autosave..

EU-EOS #7, 6, 4, 3, 2 are on 30 minutes autosave..

EU-EOS #1 is on 5 minutes autosave..

AU-EOS #1 is on 30 minutes autosave..

Thanks for already making the ticket.

This is my copy & paste from the Keens official discord server.

Changing settings by console commands will only work if you force a manual save after the change, then shutdown the server, if it's a Nitrado server make sure to delete the world cache file (.sbsB5).

Am not sure if this is bug as it's been in the game forever, especially with Nitrado servers as they made/mod their own server client for space engineers.

If you don't do these steps, the settings will revert back to the previous settings at restart or with a server crash..

---
But in general it's always better to just change settings by manually editing Sandbox_config.sbc file after you shutdown the server and deleting the SANDBOX_0_0_0.sbsB5 file before restarting the server again.
Just my two cents..

Can confirm on EOS US 10 on restart lost about 30min of mining and building. saves are 30min not 5min.

On EOS #7 the 10:00 restarts always result in a 30 min rollback but the 4:00 seems to be saving perfectly from where I left off. Maybe the 4:00 restart can help figure out how to correct the 10:00 one...

Hello Engineer,

Thank you for contacting Keen Software House. We are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues. We can tell you that sometimes server resets are scheduled when a new version is released, it is possible that you've encountered this situation.

Official Keen Software House servers are hosted by Keen and maintained by community members. These volunteers provide day-to-day support to our community.

If you have encountered an issue on an official Space Engineers server, please take the following steps:

~Please contact a server Administrator on your server.

~Join our official Discord server https://discord.gg/keenswh

~Contact a server Administrator in the #Help-for-official-servers Discord channel

We will inquire regarding the server schedule from our side and get back to you with any new information, but we'd like to reiterate that server administrators should be the primary source of information for this type of question.

Thank you for your patience.

Kind regards,

Keen Software House: QA Department

Funny response, :P

You guys are redirecting to each other, this ticket was made on the direction of set Server Administrator!!

They can't set some of the official servers to 5 minutes to auto-saving as they referring back to the old setting (a Nitrado thing), plus they can't do that anyway.

Hello Engineer,

We have received information from the department responsible for server setup. They are working hard in cooperation with Nitrado to resolve the issue. We will inform you in this thread as soon as the issue is resolved.

Hello Engineer,

We have been told that the issue has been resolved by cooperating with Nitrado. You should see the warnings before server reset and there should be a save immediately before a reset. Auto-save intervals might remain the same.

Could you please tell us if the issue is not present on your side?

Kind regards,

Keen Software House: QA Department

As you know SE servers are anything but stable, so please change all server to a shorter auto-saving time.

The current auto-saving is still mostly on 30 minutes, and are the same as before:

  • US-EOS #12, 11, 10, 8, 7, 6, 1 are on 30 minutes autosave..
  • US-EOS #4, 3, 2 are on 5 minutes autosave..
  • UK-EOS #2, 1 are on 30 minutes autosave..
  • EU-EOS #7, 6, 4, 3, 2 are on 30 minutes autosave..
  • EU-EOS #1 is on 5 minutes autosave..
  • AU-EOS #1 is on 30 minutes autosave..

But it's a great start to get warnings, an that it's saving before resets.

I'm not jet shore if that holds after a server crash, as I don't have much time this week for SE in general.

If anyone is reading this and playing on the official servers please add to this ticket if it's still saving at reset after some server crashing happened!!

Hello Engineer,

We're glad to hear that the warnings are present and that the save before reset is present. We're still working with Nitrado to set all servers to five minutes autosave. We will update this thread when we know more.

The server I was on did restart today EOS-US#1 at 11:18am Eastern Time. While there was no server rollback when it came back online about 30 minutes later, there was no in-game warning. So, the in-game warning prior to restarts would still be an issue. Thank you.

Hello Engineer,

As the rolling back issue has been fixed by cooperating with Nitrado, we will close this thread.

We're still working with them on unifying the auto-save timers but unfortunately we cannot provide any estimates.

Kind regards,
