Dedicated Servers XB

Dedicated or Official servers for survival games are a must.

If the Next Generation console is released before dedicated servers are available please provide us with at least 12 players local.

Even with the PCU limitations Roleplay or Faction base events could still be hosted with a minimum of 12 players.

I know I just left a reply further down but actually is there any update on this feature? Personal opinion, this feature is top-of-the-list critical for a true multiplayer experience (not just visiting a friend's maxed out world) and, more importantly, the longevity of space engineers on Xbox.

In the absence of dedicated server capabilities, what will happen is people will pick up the game, experience it with All the limitations that stem from having to "run the server" on the console, they'll hit their boredom limit, put it down and never think about space engineers again. They adopt a "been there, done that" mentality. This also makes it very hard to get friends that we DID get to check out the game to return to it in all of its glory.

Meanwhile, the game is already released. The hype and "front of the store" positioning only lasts so long. If this feature is released too late, you will find yourself in the position of having a "really great game, now, that missed it's time" as far as it's existence in the Xbox ecosystem.

Basically, the length of time before this critical feature is released (particularly as the game itself has already released) is directly proportionate to the size of the potential userbase.

I say all of this with love and support :P

You are 100% right on many levels I've had seven people have bought the game to try it out with me out of that seven me and my son are the only two still playing the other six have flat out told me if and when they get some more of the bugs worked out and add some of the features that are on PC they will come back to it because it's too Limited if that happens or something similar to this with every person that is playing the game how many people have not been playing the game to help it grow

Dedicated servers are a must for a perpetual world, It would be best in my opinion if it works like Ark Survival evolved where a personal Xbox can host the server and stay up/running while others join and leave. By the Server not taking up a player slot should help with stability I would think.

photo

I think they should release dedicated servers but unlike ark allow the owner to play as well as they was the worst decision anybody ever made as you don’t buy a game so that other players you don’t know can play it

photo
1

Well, the only reason ark doesn't let you play is if you want to host your own dedicated server.

I totally understand the request for dedicated server and I also have hopes it will come, and keen are aware. In the meantime I think I can share some kind of advice that can help a little bit out. I am personally playing along side with my wife and a friend. Usually I’m the host of the game. And obviously it is a bummer for either my wife or friend when I decide to end for the evening, because then they get disconnected from the game as well. BUT Here is what I always do when I’m the host and got to go.

1. I tell the others that I have to leave.

2. I save and quit the game. Sometimes I let the others leave first so that they have a chance to finish up. Dock a ship or whatever, and then I leave also.

3. I then publish the game save to workshop.

4. Then my friend and wife can download that save and continue where we left. Only takes a min Or so. And then they can continue the world we played.

5. They do the same when they don’t want to play anymore and quit. The one who is hosting will publish the save file. Cause then when I get on later then I can also continue from where they left. Or join if they have been gaming all night or day...

I know dedicated servers are better but since we don’t have that yet, then i find this method to be useful. Cause then they don’t have to wait for me to come back online. They just download the save file I published and can then continue without me.

Hope this can help you out.

I definitely understand where you coming from, but to do the extra work just to have a game where people can play when others are offline seems like something that should already be implemented. Please upvote this post so the devs can see!

Actually it was the best idea ever. Up till the ark guys letting you hot box a system dedicated to only running the game with no graphical user interface every game required monthly server costs or 4 players max limits. That means instead of paying $10-$40 a month you could go buy a referbished system for $100 and in 10 months max have no more server costs plus run with seemingly no limits on game size or player counts because not many people have 50 friends playing at once. I love public servers but having the opportunity to host a dedicated server in this way is what has people playing ark to this day. Because with all the glitches they had the majority of people would have stopped paying for servers long ago.

Well bro technically that's what it is right now you can play on a server just cant leave without kicking everyone out. If dedicated servers were implemented this would allow 24/7 servers to be ran.

Confirming, we will be implementing this feature in the coming months.

We will keep you updated about the progress.

I just have to say. After how gamer have been treated by the fun pimps you guys give me much better hope for the gaming industry. Thank you again!

I second that

Im excited by the communication and direct contact with the gamers....looking forward to servers in the future...😁

Ideally we have something like Ark where we can have dedicated servers that we can rent, and therefore keep a persistent world up.

I'm more hoping for there dedicated server windows app, but instead of connecting to steam, there will be a option for connect to microsoft/xbox account.

That way we can build our own servers.

Im sure that 3th parties will also offer SE Dedicated Servers for Xbox/PC and when crossplay becomes a option as the 2 version are almost the same, to me, thats only a mater of time.

Or they can go the minecraft way, that is as closed and limited as some game on the xbox, and will just kill interest in the game faster.

Thanks Keen crew, if you need any advice, or product operations feedback, would be happy to share (similar background). Key for my group of buddies would be something like Nitrado where we can rent and then have a managed instance.

Nitrado also has Xbox certification to do such hosting, which should allow for a faster speed-to-market here.

photo

je suis complétement d accord avec toi

Si le jeu passe par Nitrado, je loue un serveur direct

Me an my many ftiends cant wait for the servers too come out and we love the game and we are so glad that we found a game where the developers actually care for thier there game please release the servers soon

Are we looking at something like a g- portal account i hope.. That would so so many issues and probably even allow higher PCU counts if putting a limit on it at all I know I had an 8 person gportal account for Conan exiles in between the eight of us we had 12 rather large castles designed and built with little to no lag will the Xbox One X

photo

I would be very disappointed if dedicated server for Xbox required an actual xbox. With Microsoft's UWP I sure hope I'll be able to host a dedicated server on my PC in UWP and play on my Xbox with friends and family outside my LAN

photo
1

After my game too has now started to get laggy with a roughly 65k pcu count, me on dedicated server release day: "Take my money!"

photo
1

I know right the sooner they get dedicated servers up the game will run a lot smoother and we probably would not need to even worry about PCU rates

photo
2

Me and about 10 of my friends have been waiting for the dedicated servers too come out. Dedicated servers would give a better experience because quite frankly after awile it gets boring playing by yourself. Now me and my friends love the game but we arent planning too play again until the servers are released.

photo
1

Is it possible to make this a Play Anywhere title like ARK? That way players have the option of hosting a server on their pc using the Microsoft store version as well as somewhere like Nitrado.

photo
1

Stand alone suggestion

photo

I have about 20 friends that have brought this game but refuse to spend hundreds of hours only for it be thrown away when servers are released so they simply are just not playing, you guys have a game that has the potential to have a player base similar to games like Ark if you had servers and I cannot for the life of me understand the business decision to launch on console without that facility especially when your PC version can use Nitrado and that service is already avilable on console also.

+1 my sentiments exactly

photo

they are working on them it just a question of how soon will they get here im hoping they get here very soon myself

photo

did not know that I also hope they finish soon

photo
1

yer they said about servers in the may live stream

photo
1

Back in freaking may they dont care.

photo
3

Trevor they do care. stop giving them a hard time just because you aren't getting what you want right away. why would they bring this to Xbox, continue to update the game and bring the dlcs to xbox if they didn't care. you need to be patient and wait foe the updates.

photo
1

I'd rather have a stable base game before they launched servers....

photo
1

Bringing the game to Dedicated servers will help stabilize the game with better PCU limits less rubber-banding because it won't touch your system regardless of which system you're playing on so dedicated servers are going to open up a whole new realm of possibilities and it's also going to help stabilize the game even with large amounts of people playing on servers

Will we be able to self host the servers after they leave the beta?
