Grid block grouping

Need an option to add blocks to a previous block group. I think this can be achieved by adding to the "Block Group" area an "Add" button and a "Remove" button and in the "Block Group" text box you could add in a drop-down to select one of the groups similar to the dropdowns for the share block text box. For example, if I wanted to add an interior light to the drills group all I would have to do is select the interior light, left stick over to the "Block Group" area, select "Add", and choose the "Drills" group from drop down, then select the "Save" button.

Hi,

Block groups are fixed and created based on usage/type of the blocks. It's not configurable. We can consider this change in the future.

Thanks for the feedback

I feel the same way. I rename everything “ShipName-Part” so the items can be organized for making groups later but I ran into the same problem you have with using small and large thrusters. The grouping with controllers only works if the group of parts are next to each other, by default the large and small thrusters aren’t. So I have to rename them all to “ShipName-Atmos L Thurster” and “ShipName-Atmos S Thurster’ to be able to put them in a group.

You can literally use the filter in the top left to type “Ion” and then everything on that list will show all of your ion thrusters (large and small). Then it’s as simple as drag and group without having to view anything else. Or am I missing your complaint?

Thanks. Anyone else on this thread needs to read this post! Using the filter is the key to selecting multiple without renaming anything.

It won't work if you try want to group two things that don't have a common word in them. So it would be nice to be able to select individual items to group together. For example, if I wanted to group "small reactor" with "Battery" it won't work unless one or both is renamed with the same word.

For now, it works. For the future it would be a good improvement.

Agree with you guys! Also the black/white list from a sorter is almost impossible to deal with, because of this mechanism.

Agree with the topic. Note: while holding LB to select the next item, if you also hold RB it will skip the next item you scroll down to; not saying this is a good experience but with a little practice it works in a pinch without all the renaming. Suggestion: the A button for 'select' is redundant on this screen, scrolling down on D-pad effectively selects the next item anyway. I vote to change A to select/deselect for multiselect support, would be far simpler. Thanks.

hello you can hold LB to select multi item and hold LB + RB to move without select items and hold RB to remove items selectioned play around sorry im french lol

Thank you thank you. I've tried using the RB button, but when you have selected a block, you can't see if its 'checked' or 'unchecked' so if you hold RB and move to the next item, I'm never sure if it will leave that blocked checked or not until I scroll off of it. Which leads to a bunch of RB + Down, RB+ Up, RB+Down, to make sure it gets set correctly. The best advice I've seen here is Kevin's about typing in "Ion" and then being able to use LB on the whole list.

I tried the RB+LB technique and it worked for me. But definitely it's not the best solution. I think we need a way to select/deselect the blocks from the list by pressing a button, like it was told here. In general, there´s a lot of UX that need to be rethought in the game, since Xbox users (generally) don´t use mouse and keyboard, for example, the blocks three, the white/blacklist in sorters, etc....

Would love to see this option but don't remove the option to hold it down though!

Hold LB

Tap RB to select/deselect individual blocks.

Hold RB to select all of that type of block.

Also add an option to "Save To Existing Group" under Save/Delete instead of having to add all and re-type group name.

"Save to Existing Group" would be great! Deleting and creating another group every time I change something is very bad..

Hi guys,

There were multiple improvements to the block selection in terminal screen released in the recent 197 update.

  • RB+A is selecting and de-selecting elements check
  • RB+A+D-pad is selecting and deselecting all elements focus is moved over check
  • Selecting a Group selects its elements check
  • Deselecting a group deselects all its elements check

Moving around using D-pad (and even LT and RT to change tabs) does not deselect the selection.

We hope you enjoy it!

Thank you! adding this has saved me a lot of time and hassle when adding functional blocks to a grid.
