PS5 - Grinding blocks detaches structures from terrain voxels

Chris Harrold shared this bug 21 days ago
Reported

PS5

Version 1.207.022 b0 RETAIL

Experimental Mode activated

Blocks built into terrain voxels perform as normal until randomly grinding out ANY block in the structure, including decorative and non-structural blocks, will cause all blocks in the structure to “detach” from the terrain voxels. There is zero consistency to this, and while I have identified blocks that cause it in my buildings, sometimes reloading fixes it and sometimes it does not. I can sometimes “scaffold” around the issue but not always.

Some minor commonalities - grinding blocks “out of order” often seems to cause it - so if I have a conveyor line and want to add a T in the middle, grinding that bit out will often cause it. If a block would be released to float, it seems to release ALL blocks instead of just the one it should. Obviously saving and reloading an old save repairs it, but it happens pretty frequently.

Hello, Engineer!

Thank you for reaching our support portal. We're sorry to hear you're experiencing issues.

Could you please elaborate on the issue for us? Is the grid in Station mode? It would really help if you could record the issue and share the video or a screenshot.

Hello!

Yes, so the issue is with a station (built firmly into an asteroid.) Basically i have recreated it a bunch of times, but it's fairly easy to do:

- Build out ANY length/size structure from the original station - like say a docking port at the end of some conveyors, or some catwalks that bridge a gap.

- pick pretty much *any* block in the structure you just built that is not "the end" - so go in a couple of blocks from the docking port itself - and grind out the block that connects the new structure to the station.

- Instead of the bit at the "end" of the line being detached and "floating" (which would be totally expected behavior - I just disconnected it) the ENTIRE grid will detach from the asteroid voxels with associated explosions and general Klang-y-ness

As I am on PS5 I don't really know how to get a recording to you of it happening, but I would be happy to host my save as a server and let someone come see it happen. It is super easy to replicate. Otherwise I can figure out how to record a video and document the build of the base and all of that as well since it could be something odd that I did very early on that is causing it.

Hello, Engineer!

A phone recording of the screen or a photo would work from our side. So the detached grid is switched to the Ship mode in the Info screen, correct?

You mentioned you're playing on a server, are there any mods present?

Not on a server, just solo local. And I don't know if it changes to ship because it instantly craters the game performance calculating the physics. I can try and get to a terminal to see, but that may or may not work. I will do a phone recording, no problem!

Hey gang! Video recorded but there’s an issue. You’ll see it in the video. Looks like I have two bugs to report now…

I linked it to YouTube because your upload system is awful. Sorry.

Hello, Engineer!

Thank you for the video, it's very comprehensive and we're investigating the issue. In the meantime we can recommend publishing precious worlds to mod.io(visibility can be set to private if needed) to preserve them in case of issues with local or cloud saves.

Hello, Engineer!

If you could share one of those published saves as a link in this thread, it'd really help us reproduce the issue, we've not been able to with simple grids so far.

Hello! Thanks for the tip about publishing to mod.io. I actually don’t know we could from PS.

I have published my save game, called Phobos Base to mod.io (the one that is post bug state.) It’s fully public since I doubt anyone will download it but you guys! 👍

Hello Engineer!

Thank you for the provided world. We've managed to reproduce the issue directly on world startup. It's been reported to our internal system. We will update this thread when we know more.

Kind Regards
