Wind Turbines and Solar Panels not updating with weather

Michael Brower shared this bug 3 years ago
Won't Fix

I'm playing version 1.197.168 (Survival Mode) and I've noticed that both my wind turbines and solar panels don't update with the weather or the rotation of the sun. For example, when I load up my game and it's night time, my solar panels won't work, but when the sun rises, they still don't work. But if I save my game during the day, close and reload the game, then when I come back they are working fine, but when the sun goes down, they continue to draw power as if the sun was still up.

Same goes with the wind turbines. If an electrical storm roles through, my turbines spin faster generating more energy, but after I play for 30+ minutes, the wind turbines stop updating according to the current weather, which means, they get "stuck" on whatever weather type it was on when it stopped updating.

Can someone please help me?

Hello, Michael,

thanks for letting us know about this issue that you are experiencing. However, when I did try it, there was nothing wrong regarding the weather and wind turbines/solar panels. If I´m about to help you, I´m afraid I will need more info on this.

I played on v197.181 (can I ask why you did not update the game?) and when tried the solar panels, trying to go through same steps as you wrote here, everything was working. When I saved my game through the night and waited for sun to go up, then solar panels changed light from yellow to green and power was distributed from them to my base grid. Same in the evening - when sun goes under the horizon, they change from green to yellow. It´s not instant, but I would not call it a bug, as it´s quite understandable that they still do operate in light and that is still present and goes slowly to dark when sun is behind the horizon. And you also do sound that when this happen, it goes on like this whole night... am I right?

Same with the wind turbine. The power Max Output changed accordingly to weather and the Wind Clearance.

Can you elaborate more on your issues, please? Maybe do a video/screenshot proving that it is wrong on your side? Or send me the safe file, where this behavior is broken, please?

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Where and how did you play it? Was it single player, multiplayer (which form of it)? On what planet?

Thanks in advance for your reply and for providing the info/files here.

Kind Regards

Thank you for the response, Ondrej.

I played on v197.181 (can I ask why you did not update the game?) - I updated to version 181 last weekend but whenever I opened the game to the main menu, it would crash back to desktop within 5-10 seconds, so it was unplayable. Fortunately, I kept my copy of 168 just in case, and it's a good thing I did.

When tried the solar panels, trying to go through same steps as you wrote here, everything was working. - Well, it usually happens about 30 minutes after I begin my session. Did you wait at least 30 minutes to test this? When I initially load up my game, everything works fine, both Turbine and Panels. When I adjust the sun, the panels response accordingly, when I initiate new weather, the turbines increase/decrease as intended. It's about 30 minutes after playing that these systems stop checking the new weather and sun positions, so my panels and turbines get "stuck" in whatever state they were in when the game stopped checking. Very hard to troubleshoot.

Where and how did you play it? Was it single player, multiplayer (which form of it)? On what planet? - I'm playing on Windows 7 64 Ultimate SP1 on single player Survival with the following mods on the Alien Planet.

1. Space Just Got Real 1.188 (Using a custom Skybox)

2. Text HUD API

3. Basic Needs Overhaul

4. Modular Encounters Spawner w/ Rival AI, Surface Occupation, and Air Traffic

I just attached my save file called Caliban IV.zip (That's the name of my Alien planet). I'm not sure if you'll be able to play it because you don't have the same mods that I do as I've made some personal tweaks to the mods listed above.

My zip file was slightly over 4MB in size and this website warned me that it can't accept anything over 2MB. I'm not sure how I'll be able to send it to you. :(

Hello, Michael,

thanks for fast reply.

Well, I think it was more than 30 minutes. But next time I´ll make sure it´s longer period of time ;)

I think when you send me the save file, I shall have the very same mods as you do on the world, not sure about your own personal tweaks, though - game will check for mods on that world automatically and download them, but maybe only the mods as such, without your changes. You can zip them as well and add them to the folder if they are your local mods (appdata/roaming/SE/mods); that seems the best option, really.

So I take it it happens only in this world/modded worlds? Did you try to reproduce it also on vanilla world without mods? You are writing "when I adjust the sun" - so it is broken for you even when using admin tools? You don´t need to actually wait until the sun position and weather changes with the game?

Was this behavior bugged for you also in previous version (v196 and before) or it did start to misbehave just recently (v197)?

Yeah, I could tell you before about the size limit - sorry. If the file is too big to paste it here, please upload it on the G-drive and paste the link here. Just make sure that the rights are set right, so everyone (me) can view and download it. Or you can also publish the world on the Steam Workshop and paste the link here, so I can subscribe and download it from there.

Regarding the new version crashing for you - did you try to put parameter (-skipintro) into the launch options in the Steam SE Settings? That is working for some players.

steamwebhelper_MFMxp3d0ay

Or next workaround that is working for some as well is to delete/rename the "Videos" folder in ":\Steam\SteamApps\common\SpaceEngineers\Content\Videos"

Also some players do have issues with kernelbase.dll library currently, suggesting that their windows user is corrupted and that is the reason why they can not run the game and it is crashing. Upon making new windows user and running the game from there, the game runs fine, as with new user, also new and fresh set of libraries and systems files comes.

Looking forward your next reply, hopefully with the files :)

Kind Regards

Ondrej,

Thanks again for the quick response and thorough troubleshooting. I managed to zip up my save file and all of my mods and uploaded them to my Google Drive granting ALL permissions to download. Here is the link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_fXGsUcpfYh0HSF5shqJ06fXoMAWkY09/view?usp=sharing

So I take it it happens only in this world/modded worlds? - As far as I know, yes. I haven't played vanilla SE pretty much ever, as when I started playing I immediately began using mods.

You are writing "when I adjust the sun" - so it is broken for you even when using admin tools? You don´t need to actually wait until the sun position and weather changes with the game? - That's correct. After about 30 minutes of gameplay, or so, I can use Admin Tools to change the weather or the sun's position and the turbines/panels no longer respond.

Was this behavior bugged for you also in previous version (v196 and before) or it did start to misbehave just recently (v197)? - I've only been playing SE for about a month or so and version 197.168 was the first (and only) version I've played. I'm not sure if this bug would occur on an earlier version. I upgraded to version 197.181 but as I said before, it CTD immediately after I start it up so I reverted back to 197.168.

Regarding the new version crashing for you - did you try to put parameter (-skipintro) into the launch options in the Steam SE Settings? That is working for some players. - Actually it's funny because after I downloaded 197.181, the first thing I did was delete all the videos in the video folder (because I don't like watching them and they make my PC work harder than it needs too). I initially thought removing those videos is what was causing the crash so I put them back, but that didn't help. For now I'm going to stick with 197.168 until I can get this issue resolved. If we do resolve it, I'm willing to start troubleshooting 181 because I do like the idea of using non-blurry post processing effects.

Again, thank you for your help so far. I'll begin playing 197.168 vanilla to see if the issue is still present and if it's not, then I'll begin introducing Mods slowly until I can find the culprit.

Hello, Michael,

well, I tested it on your world (thanks for that) and on vanilla as well.

While on your world, the issue is indeed present and I was able to reproduce it as you described, on the non-modded world, same behavior can not be observed.

Coming from this, it really seems that this issue will be most likely connected to one or more mods you are using. Sorry to say that, but hope you understand that we do not and can not provide support for mods as there are hundreds and maybe thousands out there.

If this issue is really unpleasant and game breaking for you, you can go on and try to distinguish what mod does break it. After you find out, I suggest to write to the owner/creator of the mod and try to sort it out with him.

Really sorry I could not help more.

Kind Regards

Thank you so much for testing it and just knowing that it's broken for you (using the mods) but not broken in vanilla, helps me troubleshoot this greatly. I REALLY appreciate your help on this because now I know I'm not going crazy. Now it's just time to limit down to which mod is causing the issue.

Thanks again so much, A+ service from you! You can consider this resolved.
