Visual Scripting - Crash Reording Script Tabs

Richard Gemmell shared this bug 3 years ago
Solved

Visual Scripting Tool sometimes crashes when I try to re-order Script Editor tabs.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Open 2 or more scripts in VST
  • Click and drag a tab as far to the left as possible in an attempt to make it the first tab
  • VST sometimes crashes with an ArgumentOutOfRangeException

I've found a set of steps that cause it to fail reliably. Unfortunately, one of these crashes has done something which means that VST now crashes as soon as I open it. I'll raise a separate bug report for that.

Steps:

  • Make sure the "Automatically load last project" setting is ticked.
  • Open VST. It should display the "Scenario Editor" tab but no others.
  • Open the "Delay" common script.
  • Click and hold the left mouse button on the "Scenario Editor" tab. (I didn't select the tab first. i.e. I clicked only once on the tab and did not release the left mouse button until the drag operation finished.)
  • Drag the mouse left until the cursor is over the left hand side of the "Script Editor" tab. (Arrow 1 in the screenshot)
  • Drag the mouse down until it leaves the tab bar. (Arrow 2 in the screenshot)
  • Drag the mouse back up into the tab bar. (Arrow 3 in the screenshot)
  • Release the left mouse button.
  • VST crashes

The mouse movements are highlighted in this screenshot. Note the way that dragged tab is still visible in the tab bar. The crash only happens when this "ghost" tab is visible.75eedea86db63375f84b342935f3afd8

If you still can't reproduce it I'll try to create a video but that won't be possible unless I can get VST to run again.
