Vanilla Dedicated Server Crash from Faction Member Killing Faction Member to Collect Bounty

Garrett Wyrick shared this bug 4 years ago
Won't Fix

Server: Interplanetary Trade Alliance ECONOMY

Server is on rented, dedicated hardware in Seattle, WA, USA.

Server typically has Sim speed of 1 with 14-20 players at a time.

What happened: I had a bounty on my head because I was in a friendly status with SPRT faction due to killing lots of sabiroids (spiders) on Titan. Next, my faction member accepted the bouny contract that was on my head. Then, that same faction member came to me, shot me, and killed my player. Within seconds, the server seemed to crash and we all were disconnected. Then the server recovered way faster then we all expected. Once we got back on the server (within a few minutes for my case) we noticed it had reverted to the most recent backup save, the server backs up every 15 minutes and keeps up to 50 backups.

Furthermore, this happened when the same faction member tried to collect a very similar bounty off a third faction members head. Also, it happened whether a rifle or a grinder was used. Very consistent.

Conclusion; I spoke with server owner, he disabled bounties for the server and lowered our reputations with SPRT to enemies instead of friendly. Also, I have not tried to reproduce this in a world hosted by me, yet.
