Up Thrusters not responding properly

Håkon Nygård shared this bug 3 years ago
Won't Fix

Hello.

Me and a few friends of mine have recently started playing Space Engineers on a server together and it has in general been a blast, but we've encountered what I think is a bug that's somewhat game-breaking. We usually create our ships with a connector at the bottom, and upon disconnecting, the ships sometimes can't ascend. All the thrusters are on, all work, and you can see the ship wriggling, kind of tipping forward, backwards or sideways when trying to move and you can also see the flames coming out of the exhausts on the thruster increase in size when moving the ship to these sides.

However, when pressing space to ascend, the vertical thrusters pointing down won't work. They are on, you can see the flame, however when pressing space, the flame doesn't increase in size, the energy usage doesn't change nearly as much as it should, and even when increasing thruster override, the ship won't fly. Changing the hotkey and using that doesn't work either, it's like if the thrusters are off, but they're visually on, and turning them on and off either via hotkeys in groups or individually doesn't help.

What seems to fix it is just jumping in and out of the cockpit a few times, but sometimes this doesn't solve it either. We thought the problem might have been the connector having a magnetic field, or not disconnecting properly, but powering the connector off or straight up removing it doesn't work, the ship just drops straight down. It's not too heavy either, as it can happen with empty cargo ships that can usually carry the weight of at least one or two full large cargo containers when not bugged. It does have fuel, as they are atmospheric thrusters, and we have sufficient power.

I don't know how to re-create it exactly, but we're playing a vanilla Space Engineers server with no mods, a big platform with like 10 connectors connected to a large cargo with conveyors running to all connectors, and sometimes the ships simply won't go upwards. Sometimes it works after jumping in and out of the cockpit or attaching and re-attaching 2-3 times, other times it won't work at all, and the ship's just permanently stuck until we grind it to pieces.

Any help towards solving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, Engineer!

Thanks for letting us know. However, I wasn´t able to reproduce it, when testing. I did try to build my own ship, connect it to connector and upon disconnecting it and unlocking the landing gear, everything was working fine; for both players, as I did test it on DS and in Lobby as well.

Where exactly did you try it? On your own DS? With any special settings? Or on same public server (which)?

Can I please ask you for ship BP so I can try it with your particular build? Or maybe whole game save file would be the best :)

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers(Dedicated)\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Thanks for sharing in advance :)

Kind Regards

Hello,

thanks for the assistance. The two ships it happened most commonly with has later been destroyed by Pirates, but I'll send with two blueprints of the ships if that matters, so that you can recreate them. The two connectors are now taken by two other ships, which seems to work, so I'm not sure what the problem was. Next to the central large cargo container you'll also see a welding ship I ruined the connector for, but it still won't work upwards, despite being completely emptied. It was able to easily fly with a full cargo earlier, so no idea why it stopped working. Now it's out of power, but replace the batteries and hopefully you should see my issue with the thrusters not responding for some reason.

I'm attaching a file called Saves.rar. It contains two blueprints of small grid ship and the world save. I've later realized that the server is in Experimental mode. I do not know if you support experimental mode or if that's the blame, however no mods are installed, so not sure if it matters.

Appreciate the assistance.

Edit: The file is too large to upload. Even without backups the save file alone is 188,283KB compressed which apparently is too large for the website. We're on Earth or Earthlike, that's the planet where the error occurs, are there any files from there I would have to send with it to get a working save file without asteroids and explored space included?

Hello,

thank for the effort. Even just the save file from the affected world is that big? Not the "Saves" file all together.

If so... can you do a BP of that ship(s) and upload it to Steam Workshop and share the like here, please?

Kind Regards

Hello, Engineer!

Because there is no new comment from you, and we are unable to reproduce the issue on our own, I will close this thread now as outdated.

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.

Kind Regards
