Unable to change skin

I just got the veteran suit from the learning to survive mission but I am unable to change the default skin. Clicking equip won't change my appearance, the colors of the default suit however can be changed. I tried restarting and reinstalling the game as well as deleting the ActiveInventory.sbl file. I'm not running any mods and its working neither in the main menu nor at a medbay.
