Instead of holding ALT make button toggle for free looking around while driving/flying.

I like this feedback

I don't think so. What if someone clicks it on accident and doesn't know how to turn it back to normal. Could really ruin gameplay.

Also, I just don't think it's nessesary.

Clicking or pressing something by accident is not inherent to something not requiring a modifier key.

Voted for, because an FPS/3PS game mustn't have hard-coded bindings, hard-coded bindings to modifier keys even more so.

My left thumb sorely disagrees with you. The same can be said about any button that alters an aspect of the game, like HUD toggle, who doesn't look at the controls for a complex game like this? I've seen threads on steam asking for something like this dating back to 2015 and IMO this needs to be in the game.

Overlooking the obvious: Make this control preference an option in Game Settings.

That way people who like to cram their thumb holding down a key can still do so, however also allow others to switch to a toggle on/off method.

I personally prefer to toggle it on and have freelook active (especially for rover driving, ala GTA style lol).
