Thruster asisted steering
Submitted
Probably not the first person ever to sugest that thrusters should be involved in roll, pitch and jaw. Especialy on larger ships that need to have multiple thrusters anyway. So it is a good chance there would be one for every posible direction. Maybe if not all, you could only assign one thruster to help gyros, one for each direction?
Gyroscopes are fun and all but sometimes it takes hundreds of them and i realy think we could save some weight that way.
Now imagine wheels didnt have steering, they could only go forward or backwards. And you needed gyroscopes to drag them along the ground in the direction you wanted. Thats the way thinghs are with ships now.
Even now if you turn off gyroscopes you can steer with trusters

That would break nearly every construct everyone has. Thrusters apply force to the center of gravity. If the force was applied to the location of the thruster then every ship would spin out of control. This would add to the calculations per tick. Even if it was only while giving rotational input, that would make it so you have to manually stop rotations by rotating the opposite direction. That would add even more calculations and the potential for bugs.
For a vanilla workaround, attach a thruster to a sub grid such as a rotor or piston and use scripting to interpret rotational input into controlling the thrusters on sub grids.
