Starting problems

Won't Fix

I wanted to paly Space Engineers again after a while but i doesn't start anymore.

I have verifyed my game files multible times, completele reinstalled the game multible times (with deleting all files belonging to the game), startet it in compatibility mode but nothing helps.

I haven't changed my Pcs internals/ the windows version or anything since i played it the last time a few month ago.

(My internals should be enough for the game aswell: Geforce GTX 1050Ti, Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20GHz 3.20 GHz, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 64-Bit).

The game trys to start but after saying "first installation of directx" the progress stops or nothing happens but steam saying im playing the game.

What can i do?

Hello, Engineer!

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. You appear to have a line in your log which is mentioned here https://www.spaceengineersgame.com/troubleshooting/game-will-not-start-issues/ (Exception occurred: System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Configuration...)

'Problem: The Logfile says “BadImageFormatException” and/or “Could not load file or assembly SteamSDK”. You get the Please run this game from Steam error message.

Solution: First try to restart your Steam client and/or your PC. If this doesn’t work, download this file: Steam_appid.txt (right click and save link as) and paste it into the Bin and Bin64 folder of the game. You will find this inside the SteamLibrary folder in C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\SpaceEngineers). Then you can start the game manually by running the SpaceEngineers.exe. You can run the 32-bit version of the game from the Bin folder or the 64-bit version of the game from the Bin64 folder.

Could you please try this first and let me know how you get on?

Kind Regards

Hello, Engineer!

In this instance, could you please try the following (with any that you have not yet tried)

  • Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

/bfSnH0rGoN-NgctSWBJN3LfvWZvgnfye9BrPgucxV0n8TDpNc-7yZYwSifdRXyl1quu20KGUNmHzSf6VGRbhWS4a_EYn2MclxJSOz6eVarmz-fhTWVaofVOAVZN_l_leF9dgQ5GF

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

  • Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Please let me know how you get on

Kind Regards

I've tryed all of that (exept for SpaceEngineers.cfg [can't find a file named like that one]) but it doesn't want to work.

My Windows and drivers are up to date and no file is corrupted.

Hello, Engineer!

It looks like this is a local problem with corrupted game data. Could you please do the following:

  • Make a backup of your save files
  • Remove the SpaceEngineers folder from the AppData folder
  • Uninstall the game
  • Install the game
  • Copy the backup of your save files to Saves folder
  • Run the game, test it and then please let us know how you got on :)

Kind Regards

Hello, Engineer!

After further talks internally, it is still believed to be a local problem.

We suggest reinstalling the OS and installing all new drivers once again.
