Space engineers running but doesnt open

Nicolas Pirson shared this bug 4 years ago
Solved

So i wanted to play some space engineers (it has been a couple of months or so since i started it last) and today i clicked play and it displays me as "in-game" on steam but after several times of waiting for 20 minutes, reinstalling the game, verifying game integrity (i also tried changing virtual memory, but i changed it back to auto now instead of custom as it didnt do anything), i cant get it to work. Im attaching the log but cant add any screenshots as i cant think of anything relevant to add. Im hoping you could help me because i really want to play your game :D

Hello, Engineer!

Thank you for contacting us. Is your game updated? In case you have already tried to verify game files in Steam and reinstalling the game, please try to delete your SpaceEngineers.cfg file in your Roaming file. You can access the file by typing %appdata% into your windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Please let us know if it helped you.

Hi,

I thought i already replied but it seems to not have been posted, i already reinstalled the game and verified game integrity.

I also deleted the cfg file but i have a question about it, does it come back just by starting the game or by verifying game integrity again (which i did so im guessing starting the game again, but mmy game cant even start). I didnt put the backup in it because that wouldnt have changed anything but im just worried about how it'll come back. I also deleted the folders in shadercache (as apparently that helped for some people).

Kind regards,

Nicolas

Hello, this could also be related to steam client.

------------------

There are known bugs where the steam client itself won't launch applications. i had that issue way back and i fixed this by reinstalling the steam client and hooked back into my library folders. i spent weeks trying to troubleshoot one specific game until i realized it was the steam client itself. so i highly recommend trying this.

1.

you can also try this step where you re-aquire client files by only deleting specific ones.

2.

above is a provided link with a clean install step if you want that or just some manual unhook of steam itself for a cleanup install.

But in some cases simply deleting everything and do a clean install of everything can also solve other iffy issues by removing residual old files and such.

I have already reinstalled steam. I have not, however, done a clean install and probably will not as it will take way too long to reinstall them (i have over a Tb of games spread over 3 drives).

Have you tried reinstalling directx, dotnet and such related frameworks that steam / space engineers utilizes? or had any updates in that area recently? They can also break and/or get corrupted on updates.

Or tried moving space engineers to a different disk by library location to see if it might be disk related?

I've tried everything but moving disks, I will try that now.

Hello,

Yes, I am still having this issue but I opened a ticket and last time I heard from them, I was told that my issue was forwarded to the QA team but that it might not be fixed until a further update.

Hello, Nicolas!

I appreciate this thread is quite old. Is this still an issue that persists for you? If it has since resolved it's self, I will close this thread for you. There have been a number of updates since your post so appreciate it may now be different for you :)

Well I have no clue how it was fixed exactly, but some time after making this post, my harddrive broke down. My pc was reset and then out of curiosity i opened it and it worked. So sadly i have no clue what fixed it but yes my issue is resolved now.
