Space engineers crashes at startup

Dear Keen,

since update 1.199.023 my copy of SE will not start up, I click on the icon within steam, and the initial loading box comes up, but then crashes with the bug report tool popping up after.

I have checked .net, c++ and direct-X, GPU driver, windows update, reinstalled the game with deleting left over folders manually, and even tried -skipintro , all to which with no luck.

I have not been able to play for at least a month now

I have submitted several bug reports via the tool and am at my wits end with trying to find the cause of the issue

Please Help.

Hello, George,

thanks for contacting us regarding your issue and we are sorry that you are experiencing it.

Can you please provide logs from the game, so I can take a look more closely what is going on?

You can access these by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers. There you should be able to find txt files named "SpaceEngineers_(some numbers)" and "VRageRender-DirectX11_(some numbers)".

Please upload these here.

What could also help would be the log from Windows Event Viewer that should be generated as well after the game crashes.

I have attached the requested logs and time stamp as last crash is 12:49-12:50 ish to help narrow down search

Hello, George,

I took a look into your log - thanks for providing - and it seems that you have an issue with Microsoft C++; at least that is what the error is pointing towards. Please visit this link and just choose the proper one for you OS, download it and (re)install it.

Just to be sure, restart your PC after installation and you shall be able to run the game.

I will try this when I get home after work, do i need to do all of them manually from the microsoft site?

no :)


SE are working with VC Redist 2017, so installing only the first package, that contains 2015, 2017 and 2019 versions should be enough.

Would you advise me to uninstall the existing version to ensure a clean install, or will a over write with good version surfice?

Thank you, I remotely connected to my computer at home from work via team viewer, i uninstalled the older version as could not over write, installed the one you linked and it appears to now launch, thank you so much :)
