Space Engineers 1.199.025 freezes and requires hard restart of system

Admiral Mansley shared this bug 2 years ago
Won't Fix

Game freezes after few minutes of play. If I touch the keyboard after this happens, I notice my lights for num lock, caps lock and arrow key lock all light up momentarily, then all go off and the only way to unfreeze the system is to do a manual hard restart. I have a Ryzen 2600 CPU and Nvidia GTX 1070 GPU - 16 Gigs of Ram and 8 Gigs on GPU. The more complex the world is the sooner it seems to happen, although worlds that were pretty simple will crash too. Running the Sparks of the Future Scenario allows under five minutes of play while playing Pertam Orbital Station scenario may give 15 minutes of play, I am running with experimental mode off, but it does not matter if it is on or off, the crash occurs regardless.

Windows 10 Pro updated to 20H2 service pack for 64 bit

Updated AMD drivers and Nvidia drivers within last few days (am certain they are all up to date).

The log files do not show error or exceptions that would indicate what the problem is, and it seems to occur without warning. It doesn't matter if I placed a block or am sitting idle. Thank you for taking a look at this and hope a fix is found soon. I really enjoy playing the game but am at a place where it isn't worth having to restart my system and risking data corruption to files that may occur.

Having read through the forums it is clear that Ryzen and AMD processors have experience problems in the past, and it seems that these problems persist. Hope to see a fix in the near future so I can continue playing one of the most awesome games ever created.

Hello, Admiral!

Sorry to hear you're having this issue. Firstly, There was a mention of a crash in your thread but you also mention freezing for the most part. Could you confirm that there is no crash happening and that it is freezing to the point where you need to reset the PC?

I see looking from your log that there is no exception as you have mentioned. I also see that you're running everything in high. Is it possible to please test everything set to low and test how this reacts? You can also try bringing down the grass density/tree draw distance and see if this also has any affect (please let me know)

Please follow the below steps too as these can fix a wide array of issues:

  • Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

  • Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Kind Regards
