Sound of your own steps shouldn't be directional

Hello. When on a planet , if you're moving laterally or diagonally the sound comes from the side you're moving towards. That's not only unrealistic and annoying but also anxiety provoking as it sounds as if someone else is present near you.
Since the sound always comes from beneath your feet, I suppose there shouldn't be a directional component to your own footsteps sound.
