Sound block stops playing

Max Müller shared this bug 5 years ago
Outdated

My friends and me encountered a really annoying bug (soundblock stops playing) when playing a really long time ago with the sound block, we always hoped that it would be fixed at some point but no the game went out of early access and the behavior changed a little bit but the main bug is still there. We tried to reproduce it and here is what we found out

How to reproduce:

-Place sound block at some kind of vehicle

-Bring two or more players together in the range of the sound block (we set it to max range)

-Play something on the soundblock (we used music so loop is not required)

-Now one player moves away with the vehicle

Encountered bevavior:

As soon as on player is out of range, the sound block stops playing for all players. Restarting it does not work as long as another player is nearby the maximum range of the sound block. If bringing the player at the "border" in again makes it possible to play sounds again. Sames goes for driving further away so that no other player is nearby the maximum range border

Expected behavior:

Player leaving the range does not hear the played sound any more, but it keeps playing for players in range

Bug occurs on planets and in space

How long is the average time to get a response on a bug report?

If just found something in the logfile. Every time the sound stops, a new entry in the logfile is created but it does not state a bug or something. But the timing is perfect.

Also could the reason for the bug be that the game is just checking if the host is nearby? It seems the the hosting player has less problems with the sound block than joined players.

Could be some performance safing stuff like "if player not in range -> stop playback". This would work just fine for the single player but leads to this problems in the multiplayer. I will try to check if the problem also exists if the dedicated server is used...
